Hello, I just signed up to write articles. I signed in just fine at the site, but when I click "Edit" next to any of the fields it takes me back to the login screen. I thought it might be a Firefox issue, so I opened the page in IE...when I click "Edit" there Spybot pops up with a warning telling me that your site is trying to automatically download a virus called "Avenue A Inc.". I click "block" and I'm taken back to the log in page.
I'm not sure what is doing this, or if others are getting this problem. I assume the retro junk people aren't doing this on purpose, so I thought I'd let you know there is something nefarious going on.
Haven't had any problems. I'm sure one of the more computer educated people can chime in here, but it sounds like maybe you have alot of spyware on your computer. That can cause pop-ups to randomly appear at any time. Have you tried running an anti spyware program?
Thank you for the reply! I'm actually one of those techie people who have more protections in place against viruses etc. than most. That's why I got the popup in IE, my spyware checker was alerting me that it caught the virus (which was trying to use ActiveX, which only IE uses, to install the virus). It poped up on my friend's computer, as well, but only in IE.
Actually, I just checked it again, and no problems this time (from Firefox). Very odd, but I'm glad it is fixed. Yea!
If it is the same issue I was having, you'd only get the pop-up if you are running a program that automatically blocks potential viruses from trying to install via IE...for those who don't, it would just install automatically. Has anyone tried running Spybot or other scanner to detect if something is being installed? I am wondering if one of the ads is causing problems; this was an issue on another site I participated at where the ad was running malicious code that screwed up logins and such.
For the record, though, I haven't had any more problems since that first time. Weird.
i notice that someone uses a java browser for a popup that, know matter what, is there. im one of those guys who has 50billion uptodate virus blockers, like 40 antispyware programs, even a browser hijack preventer and malware remover. i noticed it was java when i checked the source, so a popup that only comes on when you first come in is normal
Is everybody that gets the back to login error using firefox?
I am about to put a bunch of work into the writers corner and I will try to work out all the bugs. I also plan on ofering monthly prizes to the best articles. Maybe in the $100 range.
As for the activex thing that is very odd. I make it a priority to keep that crap off of retro junk. If you get anything like that again let me know.
Glad to see you back vertex, Im glad also that you are gonna have a look at the writers forum. I was also getting these issues when trying to add my photo to the profile page but i just thought i was doing something wrong. I work for IBM and use IE but we have like millions of protection for that sort of stuff and nothing got passed our defences.
Every time I visit RetroJunkit seems to change. Just glad the people dont.
Come on Vertex and Mod Gang, sort out my contributions
It's not letting me on either. I tried changing my password, Log in. I did it like ten times and still nothing. Then I said oh, well. And tried doing an article, but it does the log in thing there too! Now no one will hear what I have to say about Samurai Pizza Cats!
Ok I have made some changes to the program to try and makes the login work correctly. The problem I am having is that everything seems to be working fine and I cannot reproduce the problems some people seem to be having.
So let me know if you guys are still having problems and I will try and gets this problem hammered out.
When I die, I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandpa did. Not like the screaming passengers in his car.
I have only just registered and am suffering a serious problem. I went to change my password, and when I enter that section, there is a lot of strange coding on the page that reads like this:
"Warning: mysql_result(): Unable to jump to row 0 on MySQL result index 16 in /home/retro/public_html/author/usercp.php on line 314" (before was 313, then 315 etc.). Anyways, I could still change my password so I did. But when I pressed submit, I was taken to my profile and - now it says that I'm female and have lots of new articles awaiting approval. And when I click on 'Writer's corner' and click on 'Log out' (under a username reading 'retro_phpbb' for some reason), I get a page saying, 'You are not logged in so we cannot log you out.'
Please can you correct this? I want to write articles and can't understand why this is happening. Thanks!
Yeah, they're working on it. I've been doing my best to help Vertex by reporting the errors I get, and he's been trying to fix them. Haven't heard from him in a couple days now though.
Anywho, when you get that sort of thing, copy/paste the error messages and what you did to get them into a PM to Vertex, along with what browser you're using, and that'll help him get it fixed, hopefully.
Well, I can't see it helping if I bog down his PM box. I think that at least three other people are using Internet Explorer and is having the same problem that I am. Except that when I click on things to go back to my Profile, It says that I'm a girl and a whole butt load of stuff is wrong... I wonder what happened for this to screw up as such...
I seem to log out randomly(not on purpose). Everynow and again when I go to a new spot on the site or even in the middle of writing an article It will say I need to log in(or that I need to log in). Does the the site have like a time limit before you need to sign in again? Or am I just being an idiot again? I sign in everytime I come to the site, it's the first thing I do so don't think that I am that stupid.
