It is disgusting, but if you know the entire story of SH2, it's a fairly deep tragedy... at least for a video game. Plenty of classical tragedy was deeply disturbing on some level or another (Oedipus Rex, Titus Andronicus) and I'd say this continues in that ancient tradition as closely as a game can. Add the fact that it's also a horror game, and I guess what we got is to be expected.

Great game, one way or the other.

Resident Evil 1 the first zombie you see on your first play through of any Resident Evil game. When he turned around it scared the absolute crap out of me.

Clocktower was full of sudden shock the crap out of you moments too.

Ahh, a fellow fan. We're talking about 4 right? Yes, what made that part worse was that you could see your future through the other people infront of you and the fact that you had full control over the screen. I winced during a lot of that part.

Some of my favorite scary video game moments...

The Resident Evil 2 demo where the guy's head falls from the ceiling (cut out from actual game)

Realizing that the knife children in silent hill don't actually WANT to hurt, you, the way they grab you its like they're coming to you for help, but their arms cut you forcing you to kill them, its like survival of the fittest and very sad and disturbing.

The crying Woman in the Bathroom in silent hill also scared the bejeezuz out of me, thats was like the moment when I realized this wasn't just a suped up Resident Evil, but something far worse.

Splatter house 3 had this scary cut scene that haunted me for many nights as a kid where the wife is slowly approached by an unseen monster which kills her if you don't get there fast enough.

Monster Party, when the world first changes from a regular cartoony NES game to a violent, messed up NES game.

Uninvited for NES, the entire game
                Ditto for Shadowgate on NES

The part in MGS3 where you have to walk past the ghosts of all the people you've killed, more sad and thought provoking than scary.

                More to come, I think.

I just won this thread. Behold! CHOANIKI:

Give up on what this game is? It's Japanese-only first of all, and second it's about the word "gay".

yeah, that part mildly creeped me out as well, it was just depressing....and it sucked for my brother, he killed just about everything that moved, so it was kinda hard for him seeing as there were buttloads of ghosts...

The first game really had some .. well .. tasty moments,
especially the cruel death scenes of our hero..
Didn't find any such picture on the web but I guess every-

I remember that game...still have it, as a matter of fact. That was one of those games I just did not play in the dark alone. The flashback in the greenhouse was VERY creepy...the second one, "puzzle of the flesh" was kind of weak though, I only played that one a little bit before giving up on it.

Silent Hill 2 was another game like that. I got my first 5.1 surround sound system around the time that game came out, and playing SH2 in 5.1 was scary as hell...you'd hear things to the sides and it was just nuts. I seriously had to shut that game off once because I was just too freaked out to keep playing.

Wow, Shadowgate for the NES...I haven't thought about that game in ages! I wasted so much time with that game :)

Wasn't there a few of them for the NES? Can't remember the other ones but I remember playing them...

My once boyfriend ‘convinced’ me to try and play SH2. Needless to say I didn’t get very far. I got to where you first start walking around the town with the female monsters, and one of them crawled out from under a car. It wasn’t one of those moments that was meant to be shocking or really disturbing or creepy like SH is famous for and all of us are mentioning, but it was completely unexpected for me. I just never had it in my mind that they would think to engineer a game where things came out from under cars, I was just so used to games where things like cars were just filler to make the environment more realistic. Well, I literally screamed blood murder, threw my controller and bolted out of the room. My BF just laughed at me, thankfully I broke up with him.
