Yes, the main channels of MTV and VH1 no longer show music videos, but if you'll click a few channels down, you'll find MTV2, MTV3, and several others that show music videos all day. If your cable subscriber doesn't offer them, then complain to them.
As far as cartoons go, I'm the most die-hard Transformers fan that I know. And I love the old 80's cartoons with a passion. Got them all on DVD and watch them often. But guys, seriously, the writing was comically hack, the animation was clumsy, and voice-acting was occasionally laughable. Same with G.I. Joe, Rainbow Brite, and most others. I still love them, yes, but they are no less stupid or poorly done than anything that's currently on TV.
The only cartoon that was actually better are old school Looney Tunes, and you guys have to remember two things: (1.) They were made from the 30's to the 60's, so they aren't 80's cartoons. And (2.) they were never really meant for children, and if you watch the golden collections, you'll realize that these cartoons were created for adults.
Oh yes, and to the person who suggested that there be a channel specifically for "old shows," I believe they call it TV Land.
Thank you man. People fail to realize that there were just as many crappy shows in the past as there are now. I tried to rewatch many of the sitcoms from the 1980s, only to be disappointed. I can't watch much of them these days without cringing. The only 1980's sitcom that stood the test of time for me was Married With Children. The rest, forget about it.
There are great shows out there now, it's just that you guys never take the time to watch them or you won't give them a chance. I love to watch Venture Bros, Squidbillies and Metalocalypse on Adult Swim, Curb Your Enthusiam on HBO and a bunch of other shows. Sure, there are reality shows everywhere, but, you have the choice not to watch them.
As far as Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network goes, get over it. You aren't in the target audience anymore. Let the kids enjoy the shows on now.
People complaining about modern TV isn't new. It has been going on for years.
