These are areas that were not really covered heavily by the media (well, they covered the 17th street canal break and the dome).
We are allowed to go in but they really do not want people to try to live in the areas most heavily damaged by flood waters. As you can see by some of the lakeview pix that the water was 12" or higher.

Click on the pix because some have a description.

I do not see how the mayor wants to rebuild in 3 months as he is stating.. Hundreds of thousands of houses were flooded beyond repair and just the bulldozing of them would take a couple of years.

I could not make it to the 9th ward because they are only letting people in there that have addresses in that section.

Yeah but look what they are coming back to.. Most have to come check their damage, salvage what they can then leave.
These people may not be able to return for months..

dang, I thought I replied to this already...

Yeah, I saw on the news, most of the homes down there are uninhabitable because of water damage and mold and it'll take, possibly a year just to buldoze them all let alone rebuild them :( Man that's terrible... I hope at least they can avoid damage from anymore hurricanes while they're rebuilding.

My sympathy's to those out in new orleans.

I talked to a bldg contractor the other day and his estimate was 3 years until everything is torn down and rebuilt. There is something estimated around 160,000 houses that need to be demolished.
