You know the feeling.

You're in a thrift store, flea market, or yard sale. You look over at another shopper and in there hands you see the object of your retro desires. That toy or find that you dreamed of getting your hands on for years, firmly in the hands of some so and so whom you wish would just soooooooo die right now. Most likely you plotted to steal it from them or you prayed that there was a 2nd one nearby.

Most likely you went home and cried, vowing to never leave your home ever again. At least until the next sale.

So what were your retro misses?

One of the worst for me was losing out on a huge box of Atari games, in there original boxes for 1.00. Another was a G1 Megatron that I missed by 10 seconds. The 6 year old kid that got it, got it for 50 cents!!!!!!! Arrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhh!!!!

I also missed out on several board games that I could have resold for hundreds of dollars each.

Ok, now I'm starting to feel sad......

The box that sells Nintendo Gamepack cards. I got the last of the cards. I just regret not taking the box along too since it didn't have any value to the store anymore.

I once missed out on buying an SNES for $5 - someone grabbed it before me!

I also missed out on buying one of the old Berenstain Bears episodes on VHS "The Messy Room"! Those VHS episodes are pretty hard to come by.

There's more, but it makes me sad to even think about it.

I never have a problem with people snadding stuff for a good price, I usually have trouble with the thrift shops jacking prices up, especially on videogame related items. The only item I missed out on was an all original 1983 IBM PC XT with the original software on the Hard Disk, an ex-friend bought it, I just tried to justify letting it go to myself by saying to myself over and over that I did not need it.

Usually though, it goes like this. The local liquidation store has an original 4-switch Atari 2600 console they are asking $20 for just the console alone. I spent $80 to buy out all 20 of their Atari games, which was kinda dumb, but I did get some rarities.

I spent $40 for my SNES at Goodwill, a week later they got another one in and put a $5.99 tag on it (DOH!!!!).

But then, on the other hand, I got even, they put up an 8 port KVM switch for $10.00......turns out it was still on the market brand new....for $869.99, bwahahahahaha!

Many years ago my answer would have been different but as of right now I have most of what I've always wanted to get. I've become shrewd from my years of collecting. Three big things I've learned are it's all about timing, to turn something down if it's too pricey (I almost talked myself into buying a 100 dollar copy of Frank Zappa's first album but I thought better of it and later on got a copy for half that price) and things I want will often show up where I least expect them to.

This one makes me so mad.. I have been searching for virtual bart for SNES forever, it's not that expensive on ebay, I'm just cheap and don't want to pay all that shipping & handling for something I had free when I was younger. Anyways, at value village (savers in the US - it's like good will) they had it for $2.99, and I missed it because I had no cash on me, I was just in there wasting a few minutes waiting for someone.. when I went back with money about 2 hours later, it was gone. Atleast I work there now, I can see what goes out first now.

oh and on ebay the other day, I was watching an alvin & the chipmunks VHS "funny we shrunk the adults" and there was about 3 hours left, I had people over so I wasn't sitting at the computer, I ended up forgetting about it and going to sleep after the people left, so i lost it. It went for 1.50 or something like that and $4 shipping and handling, I was soooo pissed.

I'd have to say the NES I ran across at a flea market, but didn't have enough money. Of course, I'd bought 2 Gameboy games and Diddy Kong Racing for the N64 that day as well.

a while ago i found a 2 year old kid with a garfield comic book i deeply enjoyed as a kid. to make matters worse, the kid ripped up the comic book right in front of my very eyes.

                        i almost cried.

I found a Blip: The Digital Game at a thrift store for a few bucks once. I wanted to get it so bad, but my then-boyfriend convinced me not to. I've regretted it ever since.

I saw some TMNT toys at a pawn shop for $5 altogether. Some kid brought them before I did.

My mom would had gotten a Commodore 64, but she was confused with some words in descriptions and wanted to know if it works or not because god know I don't want a broken C64. And that was the missed opportunity to actually own the original computer. Wah.

About eight years ago, I went to a second hand store that had a shed outback full of boxes and boxes of books. I spent a couple of hours going through boxes of old crappy romance novels and came upon a package wrapped in brown paper and sting. I unwrapped it and it was full of comic books in excellent condition(probably thirty or so). I don't even remember what the comics were except for a few westerns and I think also some Green Hornet, (I don't think I looked very carefully because I was too excited but seem to recall that they were from the fifties and sixties. I collected comics as a kid, so I knew these were probably worth something and asked how much for the bundle and the lady scooped them up from me. She told me that the store hadn't had a chance to sort through all of their books yet (many were donations if remember correctly) and these weren't for sale. Talk about a god damned bummer. I've always tried to block that incident out, but think about it every now and then. If I would have known they weren't going to sell they I think I might have stolen them (I'm not normally a thief) because they never would have missed them. I could have easily concealed the package in the waistband of my pants and covered it with the winter jacket I was wearing. Que Sera.
