    Hey guys and gals,

I wrote a few articles that were well-received (21-40 thumbs up apiece) and several of you posted encouraging comments indicating that you'd be on the lookout for my next piece.

    Great Animated Fantasies

    64k of Childhood Memories

    Murder Most Foul...Foiled?
    http://www.retrojunk.com/details_articles/1787/
I stepped away from the keyboard to enjoy others' work for a time (a few weeks), and when I returned, I cobbled together what I thought was a more personal, serious piece about nostalgia itself and how childhood memories can carry us through some rough times.

The Cat's Out of the Cradle
    http://www.retrojunk.com/details_articles/1901/

In short: it was panned! The highest rating its had is a 2, and at one point it went back down to zero...including my vote!

So, where did I go wrong? Is the article lame? Did I violate an unwritten rule that the stories here have to be Top 10 Lists in order to make the grade? Is it that nobody knows Harry Chapin? Or am I missing the point altogether? Is it too mature for the audience here?

I at least figured that the "fans" of my previous articles would read and enjoy it.

So please, clue me in. I put a lot of work into my articles, spellchucking them and everything. ;-)

    Thanks in advance,
    CD

For the last one, it really depends on who knew who he was. I was born after he passed so I never knew him. I didn't vote on it because of that reason. That could be why its lower than your other articles.

I've noticed that it doesn't really matter how good of an article you write, but what you write it on. You can put out one of the most well written and entertaining articles on the site and people will vote low because they aren't familiar with the subject. You can also write an article on something everyone loves, for example, TMNT and it can read like it was written by a first grader and still score high.

Jason 43 is right. You need to a write the piece for the readers on this site as much as yourself. If you don't meet their wants, the amount of work you put into a piece will not matter.
