    I have a question.

What's the difference between a bootleg movie and using your vcr or recordable dvd player to record something off the tv?

I'm being serious. how come that is ok?

It's a little less severe when you're using your VCR to tape something that's available to the general public as opposed to filming a movie in theaters (essentially stealing from the movie industry).

there really isnt a difference except that with using a VCR its legal

      yeah but why?
because thats why VCRs were made to tape movies and tv shows off tv, now companys who let there movies be played on tv know its going to happen so they accept it , but in a theatre they want people to play lots of money to see it and they dont want bootleggs of it floating around

That makes total sense. But lets just say I rent a movie from Blockbuster. It's a movie that has been on TV many times. If I copy the dvd I rented. Is it the same as recoreding it off tv?

Off the subject, but I think that "I Am Legend" movie is totally overrated. Those "zombie" type CG things looked really fake. Why not just use real people? Garbage.

No, that would not be legal because usally when they play movies on tv scenes are edted and if you rent it your paying for those extra scenes,so it wouldnt be legal
