Hey guys! I loves me a good video game so thought I would throw up a section to discuss all of the games we loved as kids as well as top of the line stuff like the PS3, Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Revolution.

I will crisen the new section by bringing up the recent unveiling of the Revolution controller.
    http://www.theregister.com/2005/09/16/nintendo_unveils_revolution_controller/

Because of the NES and the SNES I have a soft spot in my heart for Nintendo but it seems like since the SNES Nintendo has consistantly shot themselves in the foot. This controller seems REALLY bad.

    Let the discussion begin!

First post (other than Vertex, but when you're the owner/moderator it doesn't count.. :P)

I was shocked by the look of the Revolution controller. It seems really impractical to use. If you hold it upright like in the pictures, you'd have to control the D-Pad with your thumb, which leaves your fingers around the back of the controller and unable to readily access any of the other buttons. To hit the B/Start/Select buttons you'd have to take your thumb off the D-Pad, so you wouldn't be able move and perform actions at the same time.

I do like the look of the plugins, and also the fact that the controller is wireless as standard (I've never trusted third-party *cough*Madcatz*cough* wireless controllers). I can't really write the controller off until I try it personally, but I'm more scared than ever about Nintendo's future.

Oh, and they'd better release NES and SNES controllers that can plug into the console, considering they'll be allowing Revolution owners to download vintage games.

I have given up standing up for Nintendo's future. That is the dumbest controller I have ever seen.

That controller sucks. If both of your hands are occupied, how are you supposed to eat Doritos and drink soda while you play?

I think the logic is that Nintendo knows they can't compete with sony and microsoft in the console wars, so they're going with something radically different than the other two and are hoping it will catch on. IIRC, the controller has motion sensors in it, so you may not even need to use the analog stick or d-pad. I expect this to go the way of R.O.B. and the Power Glove and don't see it catching on at all, but will give it a try when it comes out. I believe they will also offer a more traditional controller as well.

This controller is good for sword fighting games and shooter games, but how the hell do they expect us to play the downloadable NES and SNES and Gameboy games with a controller like that? My friend says he saw something online where they have a alternate controller for older games and Gamecube games, but i've searched online and can't find anthing about that.

Now, if they do have an alternate controller or something like a regular controller i'm all for this. It would be fun playing a 3-D Duck Hunt game with a controller that works like a gun, but still, im worried about how they expect us all to play older games or games that aren't shooter games.

this video makes me like this controller for games that would call for sword fighting and other tings, but still.....damn, how the hell can I play Mario Kart with that thing?

It looks like the remote to the beds you lay in when your at the hospital.
One button calls a nurse, the other moves your bed up and down, another tunrs on the AC, the next one turns on the T.V., COMON NINTENDO give us a reason to defend you from the slimey claws of PS and XBOX... at least TRY...it's like your not even trying anymore.

Look at the wand. Turn it sideways. It has a D-Pad and two buttons on the top, just like an NES controller.

IGN also reports that they are making a shell to make it look more like a traditional controller with normal sticks and buttons on it.

However, Nintendo is completely shooting themselves in the foot with this one.

Nope it's not, and it's not that bad really. Even though it's a remote with an attatched joystick that could be better used as a nanchaku than a console controller! I'd say it's probably just a new step even though the controllers we have already probably would be fine.

But I see where Nintendo is going with this, I just hope they're not going to "over-advance" themselves like Sega did. I don't know just how bad this controller is going to be when it comes to functionality but I'll have to see for myself.

And Nintendo isn't doing bad in the Game sales standings, it's actualy doing better than both Sony and Microsoft as far as profits are going, but they have a lot more at stake and a lot less to fall back on if they screw up.

I heard Nintendo's new controller will actually give you an electric shock whenever the character you're playing takes damage

I grew up with Nintendo, and I remember when Sony said they were launching a gameing system being naieve enought to think that they would never out-pace teh mighty Nintendo... LOL... I have to admit that the thought of using motion sensors in the controller is intersting. and even though it's pictured being held like a TV remote, someone else was right on when they said that it could be held like a standard controller. I still find myself rooting for Nintendo, even though it seems like they only come out with about 5 good games for their consoles... A Zelda game, a Metroid Game, a Mario game, and then a couple more.. what really bugs me is that they are really taking a defeatist attitude towards the whole next-gen console competition... they have the potential to be great again, but they would have to really work hard to get there... and if you cling to the notion that no matter what you do or release, Sony and Micro$oft are going to out-sell you, then you'll never regain the place you once held... IMHO, at least....
