While I didn't have the Sega Channel, my brother had it for a while since he lived in what I understand to be one of the first test markets - Charlotte, NC. It was awesome!!! You could preview games which had not yet come out, and some of them were never released. There are ROMs around of some of the unreleased games which I remember playing on the Sega Channel.
Why hasn't any other gaming companies done anything similar since then?! Oh yeah, that's right, too much value for the money. Now they can make you pay the same price for one crappy game rather than being able to play it and tons of other games "online". Sega was very innovative. Remember they also came out with the first game console modem? And then there was the Saturn and more recently the Dreamcast. Unfortunately they were never able to market their wonderful products and services very effectively.
