Yea... I'm pretty sure it was just a simple signal to alert people to take the damn tape out.

I'm now guessing it signals the VCR to turn the tape off because on my brother's VCR, it never shows up, it just stops the tape, and that noise I heard at the end of The Land Before Time VHS probably does the same job the static does, tells the VCR to stop the tape and rewind it, because most tapes just eject it.

But if anything else being scary on The Land Before Time, its the American Tail advertisement at the end (before the black screen and strange noise), maybe because of the vivid brightness of the sunshine through the window in the room with the video sitting on a table with colored marbles next to it. It may of also been the unexplained reason of the marbles sitting there, its the only other object on the table besides the video.

Are you serious? Normally, the movie would end and the lights in the theater would come back on, but I only saw a screen with a green color similar to the "all audience" thing during previews. If I saw the white screen and tone there, I would march right up to who ever runs the camera and ask him what the purpose of it is, and then i'd go take some Advil

Jeez what a weird thing to obsess about lol.
I still don't get whats scary about a beeping sound, I was never scared of it as a kid, you might as well be scared of a dial tone.

If that is really the purpose of it, they should have put something at the end saying "End of tape. Please press stop and rewind.", but instead, we see cheap white and black test patterns.

Sometimes people fall asleep during a movie and that weird sound is probably also used to tell them to wake the hell up and turn the VCR off. Make sense to me. Because just who would keep the tape going after the credits are done and gone. They would rule out people leaving the room because why put the tape in in the first place or not turn it off if you're not interested? So the only logical situation is that someone fell asleep and is not turning it off.

Bet that white screen is at the end of my late-80s VHS copy of "Crocodile Dundee II".

I Remember The White Screen At The End Of VHS Tapes, I Would Get Scared When That Loud Beep Comes On. I Think It Was Just A Warning To Take The Tape Out.

i remeber those things now!..the little beepy noises at the beginning and the end of the video (like someone dialling a phone number real quick)always used to freak me out for some reason..and with the numbers popping up on screen too..**shivers**..i dont know about tghe white screens, but here in the UK, it was mostly black screens at the end of the movie..actually, i thought i was the only one who used to watch a blank screen at the end of the movie!

It's so creepy I don't even want to look for it, but you may see it at the end of a Land Before Time vhs tape.

The blue blank or green blank usually turns up at the end of first run Disney cassettes. I actually thought it was kind of cool, but that's just me.

My old VHS of E.T. has that at the very end of the video.

Cassettes? As in cassette tapes? I don't get it, but if it's a VHS tape your talking about, which ones were they? I didn't see anything at the end of Disney movies but the static you would usually see.

No matter what color the screen or what kind of sound you hear, even if it's just a new tape that just goes to "blank tape static" as I call it, it is all just a way of saying "The tape is over. Press Stop and Rewind now."

It's good to know that I am not the only one who was freaked out by the white screen at the end of VHS tapes. I remember making a scene in a video store and at school once.

Yeah, that woke me up more than once. I remember really old cassette tapes came with that barely audible synching sound right at the beginning.
