There is only one video game game over screen that has ever made me jump.

It's in Super Smash Bros, and if you lose all of your stock in 1P mode, you will go to a dark screen with your character on the ground. If you dont want to continue, this ominous voice says " GAAAME OVER" really loudly. It gets dark after that, and the voice is enough to drive someone crazy.

I remember that! ugh I didn`t like that either. Sorry about replying in a while....PC trouble. When I get the damn thing to work again,I'll share more screens. I hate the g/o screens that don't go away unless you hit 'start' WTF. last I want to add is game over music is also evil. Here the g/o music from Either abadox or vice: project doom on nes.

if you've noticed most games Capcom makes nowadays say "You have died" or "You Died" instead of gameover...

one that kinda freaked me out is in the game Silent Hill 3, I dunno if its all the time, but if you die the creature known as "Valtiel" will grab your legs and drag your body away somewhere

It would have to be, to this day, Chrono Trigger. When you die, the screen shows a picture of the earth and the screen fades to black and white with the sound of Lavos (an evil parasite) sucking the planet dry. Then these words appear in large size on the screen:

            "BUT...
            THE FUTURE REFUSED TO CHANGE."

Pretty damn scary. To me, anyway... :p

When I was like 5 or 6, I used to be scared of the title screen of Revenge Of Shinobi, and the intro of The Lost World: Jurassic Park, both on the Genesis, I always hated lightning, or surprises.

You might have already seen this in the other thread, but since this is the main one, I'll say it here:

                            Chrono Trigger
The whole "end of the world" concept as a game over screen was done pretty well. For me, maybe a little too well. It's basically a picture of the world fading to black and white while being sucked dry by an evil parasite. That sound scared the crap out of me. Then these words appear in large size:

                            "BUT...
THE FUTURE REFUSED TO CHANGE." Dead silence. And it doesn't go away until you press Start.

I also agree with rirotostichi about that tune you hear when you're about to drown in the old Sonic games. Not a game over screen, but I still cringe on water-based levels...

The "you're about to drown" song in the sonic game, sounds like the Jaws theme.

Here's another one: I think it was Mortal Kombat 4?
I think this one had the screen when the countdown starts, you're falling into a pit, and when it hits zero, you fall into a bunch of spikes and die. Still pretty scary now that I think about it...

Yeah, that was MK4. I think the scariest is in Resident Evil 4, where, just before you get on the boat to battle Del Lago, if you shoot the lake with any gun a certain amount of times, Del Lago (A very big crocodile? monster), pops out of the lake and eats you. Game... over.

yeah, the splatterhouse 3 game was hard as heck, and i agree, the game over screen for it is kinda scary. i used to play games late at night during my childhood and would rarely get nightmares from the eerie MIDI music playing
