How many of you still have your oldschool Betamax tapes and machines? I have an old Sanyo VCR4000 top loading Betamax machine and it still works like a charm ;)

I don't have Betamax tapes, but I have just VHS tapes. I remember since I was a kid, we didn't have any Betamax tapes and a Betamax machine, we used only a VCR. My uncle has tons of old VHS tapes, but not Beta. He has movies and some really old cartoons taped off of another VCR or from TV.

I have a box full of beta tapes, but no working beta machine to play them on :( We do have one, but it is broken.

I still have a beta tape player that I use to find rare Television shows people taped, you can buy used tapes fairly cheap and I'm allways finding great stuff to convert to DVD.

I never had Beta tapes or a beta machine. I don't even know what beta is.

I have two, tucked into a crate of 8-tracks, and they both have football recorded on them. No player, though.

BETA is a type of video tape similar to VHS, but of smaller size. They flopped due to poor marketing, but gained some success since the picture quality is above VHS. It is also known as Betamax. A similar format war is going on with HD-DVD and Blu-ray. The movie Videodrome prominently shows these and are used.

Beta tapes had highter quality than VHS, picture quality wise they were a preview of what was to come with laser disc and DVD. Beta tapes are sometimes still used in the tv broadcasting world.

I had a Beta vcr for a while a friend gave me but it eventually died on me. While it was working there was a rental place selling three Beta tapes for four dollars and I bought a handful of videos which I then transfered to VHS. The titles were:

You Only Live Twice (with Ann-Margret and Ally Sheedy)
                    The Breakfast Club
                    LA Story (with Steve Martin)
Crimes of Passion (with Kathleen Turner)
                    Lethal Weapond One

I have never even heard of these things until a few months ago.
