After a few days of being offline and moving around we finally got settled into the house that someone graciously put up for us way up in Centre Alabama (north of Gadsdon)..

Well we went back to Jefferson Parish on Monday to grab some clothes, clean out the fridge and check out the damage and I have to say that we were very fortunate.

Unfortunately both of our cars had about half a foot of water in them so they are gone (Thank God my house is off the ground), a tree fell on my shed and that needs to be torn down and a branch fell on my roof and damaged shingles (I do not know if it punctured the roof because our insurance company told us not to move anything just take pictures) and a bunch of shingles are missing so we will need our whole roof redone.. Our house does need some repairs due to some wind damage though.

The worst thing was the smell of the freezer when we cleaned it out. It was bad, very bad.

Honestly the areas we drove through looked like a warzone due to all the uprooted trees and damage to houses / businesses.
There was military and police all over and choppers were everywhere. It looked like a military zone (I was scared to be in my own house honestly). I have news for you, whatever you saw on the news it is 100X worse in person. It was hot and uncomfortable not to mention the general odor that stunk up the place..

It is tough not being able to sleep in your own bed at night and being in a foreign location but the people here have been good as gold to us so we thank God for that.

As for our jobs we have no clue if we are being paid (the hurricane policies that my company has in place are clear, they are trying to reneg on the policy that they established).

I have put my resume out to some places to get a temp job and one of the Christian schools up here took in some of the "exiles" so my daughter is going to school up here..

Needless to say even though we are being taken care of, we have gone through hell (as of any of the 1.5 million people that evaced) and I cannot imagine what those that did not evacuate went through in the dome.

I still do not know why people are wanting to stay in a disease ridden flooded city. They should leave so the electirc companies can work on getting things working again..

Cyber, I am sooooo glad to hear that you and your family are doing fine :D ! I pray many miracles and blessings upon you and yours and everyone else affected by Hurricane Katrina. I do have a question though. What's the biggest misconception about your city and its fellow members? I don't mean to be like 21 questions, just wanted to know.

Great to hear you're doing alright Cyber ^^

I can only imagine how bad it really is down there, hearing it on the news is nothing compared to actually seeing it I'm sure. I still pray that you, and everyone else involved in this, are makeing things work while you're in this "temporary exile".

I also am curious as to what some of us who only hear about this have misinterpreted about this situation. In case you have anything to share about that.

Again, it is most excellent to hear that your fine and out of this disaster for the most part and are doing well. I pray your life returns to a more calm and less stressful time soon.
I hope this little clip will cheer you up, it puts a smile on my face when I watched it. ^^ http://captainconan.ytmnd.com/

                    Thanks!!

                    misinterpretetations

We had over a week to evacuate. FALSE. I read people making this claim on several other websites and it is false. First They cannot accurately predict where a storm is going a week in advance and second as of the Friday before the storm was forcast to hit the pan handle of Fla. Only within a little over 2 days did the track shift and target NOLA. Not to mention the storm formed in the Carribbean instead of over by Africa (storms from Africa take between 2 and 3 weeks to make it to the Gulf.

Police were ordered to shoot all looters. FALSE. At first the police told people to get supplies like food water, baby food, etc and then she trouble started as greedy people started stealing TV's and such. Soon after people were looting houses and taking weapons, only then did the shoot looters order come up BUT they were only shooting those that threatened.

Individuals that were mentally ill due to the stress were shooting at the releif choppers. FALSE. (The following info I got from a police officer friend of mine when we went back on Monday) The individuals shooting were gang members. Some of the local gangs decided to attempt to take over the city and started firing at anything they saw as a threat. There was firefights between them and cops that was not released in the media.

Here is something that you did not hear in the media, it was only broadcast on local stations (we heard it when we went back on Monday), the gangs actually attempted to kidnap the police cheif of New Orleans while he and his motorcade were riding through looking at the damage.

                    It was a madhouse.

Always nice to hear about people being able to go on with their lives without too many problems. I'm glad you're doing ok right now and hope your life will be normal again as soon as possible. As for the misconceptions, is it true some people are forced to evacuate, but are not allowed to take their pets with them? Coz I saw it somewhere on the news, but I just couldn't believe it.
If anyone can help me get my hands on King Arthur and the Knights of Justice episodes (other than the first five which were released on DVD way back in 2004), please contact me (PM). I really want to see this show again.

Unfortunately some of the hotels and shelters do not allow pets and I think that in a case like this they should have made exceptions allowed them. But if it came down to it, I would not risk my wife and daughters for our cat. Do not get me wrong I love our cat dearly and he is a part of the family but if it means for me to protect my family the cat looses out.
That may sound cold and I am sorry.

BTW our cat is safely up here with us :D

Thank you Cyber for clearing a lot of things up for us. I know this must be a stressful time for you and your family, but its so refreshing to actually hear the situation from a NOLA-ite(don't know if that's the word to use  ). So much has been chopped and screwed in the media which in turn chops and screws the rest of Americas view of it all. God bless :) !

yeah I've been hearin this alot lately too. This is BS I thought that at most peopl had 3 days to react and evacuate, if they were going to evacuate. It makes me sick when I hear these pompus asses on TV sounding so high and mighty saying that New Orleans and surrounding communities had so much time to evacuate when its a little hard to say where the storm is actually headed once it comes out of the carribean. These guys are idiots.

stay safe Cyber, I'm doin the mario for ya right now.

Thank you very much for clearing that up Cyber. I never really heard who it was that shot at the helicopters, I only recalled hearing that "Some citizens of New Orleans shot at a rescue helicopter" not gang members. Although I had heard that the gangs were causing a lot of the problems down there.

I hope things clear up down there and the criminal element is thoroughly removed so the rebuilding can start.

ok, thanx for clearing that up. I don't think you sound cold at all, considering what has happened and what choices you would have. Right now, I can't imagine leaving my cat behind just to be safe myself, but who knows what my choices would be. I still think it's ridiculous, cruel, and unfair people aren't allowed to bring their pets to safety.

Glad to hear u are Ok Cyber. The week to evacuate is BS, any one that lives in the gulfcoast knows that hurricanes are very unpredictable. Uusually they give a 2-5 day notice to evac and thats if were lucky. Anyway, if they had a week to evac. why did the government not step in and help those people evac, or at least have sent supplies to the superdome. I guess we will continue to find out why FEMA was so unprepred in the comming weeks.
