and like every show was interrupted by a random letter or number of the day

reading through all these posts made me remember a segment on SS when a man goes fishing by cutting a hole in the snow, I think he had his young son with him as well. Can anyone else remember this???

          I think I do...heh.

Me, too! It had the eskimo kid showing and counting all the fish he caught from the ice hole ( ) and saying "I love fish!"

One thing I remember for sure is the 1990s ending credits, with all the buildings dancing, and then, near the end of the music, Big Bird would come on very briefly and say the popular closing line of "Sesame Street is a production of the Children's Television Workshop". If I'm not mistaken, this ending was only shown on Fridays.

The Twin Towers were among the many dancing buildings. They also had dancing clothes on a clothesline, with Big Bird dancing with a girl and Elmo floating into the sky with balloons. I also remember almost all the music and SFX that went along with the credits!

Well I'm not gonna put any Sesame Street names down, cause in Holland they have completely different names (alright, Bert and Ernie are the same) But I remember quite a lot.. Lately I had to babysit my little cousin, so we watched Sesame Street and I really was shocked of how much it had changed! It's actually more violent, no kidding!

I haven't watched the show in years, but from what I've read on other sites, it has essentially become "The Elmo Show." He's the focus of pretty much every segment. Apparently they have added something called Elmo's World. Looks like the Sesame Street we grew up with is dead.

Maybe I just thought this happened after reading everyone's recollections, but was there ever a segment with Smokey Robinson? I seem to recall a skit where he sang "You Really Got a Hold On Me" and danced with a giant letter U. Also, I think they once showed a video where a little girl is climbing steps in a park. It ends (from what I can remember) with another little kid saying, "she really, really likes those steps."

I wouldnt admit this to anybody other than the people on this site but I actually watch Sesame Street sometimes because I have this channel called PBS Sprout and it shows Sesame Street at 2pm and I watch it when I can remember. Now, most footage is new but there are also a lot of recycled footage from when we were kids. A lot of the animation, songs and sketches are things that I remember watching as a kid. The only drastic change is of course Elmo's World which I cant stand like everyone else.

Yeah, those were the days...when other characters were more popular such as Big Bird.
