      Guess what's happening NOW: PBSKtv is now a station called PBS Sprout, dedicated to Pre-school educational programs. PBSKTV used to air great shows like Dragon Tales and Between the Lions, as well as the classics Reading Rainbow and Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. What does this change mean?

      Mr Rogers Neighborhood: gone

      Reading Rainbow: gone (I wish I'd recorded the Teamwork song)

      Between The Lions: gone

      Clifford The Big Red Dog: gone

      Clifford's Puppy Days: gone

      Dragon Tales: cut to 15 minutes

      Sagwa: The Chinese Siamese Cat: cut to 15 minutes

      Jakers! The Adventures of Pigglywinks: gone

      Adventures From The Book Of Virtues: gone

      Now they air Angelina Ballerins, but THAT's been cut to 15 minutes. WTF is going on? And now this channel will have COMMERCIALS. A children's channel with commercials for McDonalds and such. That's just fuckin' low.

        Anyone know where I can get the 90's closing music from Sesame Street? I remember the closing music sounded like trumpets and bells and it was just a blue/blacking background with the credits. I love that theme for some reason.

          ONE good thing about PBSKTV becoming Sprout is that Sesame Street is now showing the eps where Elmo doesn't appear until the last 15 minutes. I got to see the Count again yesterday!!

            You mean the one that kinda sounded like a superhero theme?

              Bring Back THE 80s!!!!!!! lol, had to do that. I barely even catch Seseme Street on PBS now (when I have days off and flipping through the channels). Kids have nothing on regular tv nowadays, barely have anything on Cable. *Stands on soapbox* This is why I chose the career I did. One day I will bring back the greatness of television for kids, for my future children. I think kids today care crap about tv anyways.

                I remember so many sketches from Sesame Street it's not even funny! But a lot are pretty sketchy to me (no pun intended). Some sketches I recall seeing:

                - The animated sketch where one kid at a time says "My name is Joe, and my favorite sport is (insert sport here)." Until the last kid says "My name is Joe, too. Joanne."

                - The song "On the island of emotion."

                - The sketch where Bert and Ernie are on a trip to Egypt and get chased by mummies.

                - The animated clip where a cat is trying to get his owner's attention (who is talking on the phone) to open up a can of food for him to eat, so he uses various methods to get it open (banging on it with a baseball bat, chewing on it, or hitting it with his head) and when his owner finally opens the can after so long, the cat was so tired from opening it shuffles over to his dish and his face plops into his food.

                - The parody of the '70s Coke ad with Mean Joe Green, when he tosses the kid a jersey with the number 7 on it at the end.

                - The clip showing little kids on a field trip to the fire station.

                - The "Chickens In a Tree" song.

                - The "1 2 3 4 5, 6 7 8 9 10, 11 12" pinball segment.

                  I have the 123456789101112 pinball song on MP3 if anyone wants it.

                  I remember the Bert and Ernie Mummy thing too. Where the mummy would come alive only when Ernie was around and it would scare him and he'd be like, "BERT! BERT!" and it would stop moving when bert came by.

                  I also remember, "We all sing in the same song". I think thats what it was called good song. And I remember the segment where the girl would talk about her pony named Strawberry and another one where an african boy was making bricks. I thought those segments were cool b/c it taught about other cultures and stuff.

                  Plus I remember the Wubba Wubba song with Grover, The Simpsons, and I think Whoopi was there too. Thats probably my favorite sketch along with Teeny Little Super Guy. *Lisa*

                  P.S. Someone who said Jakers is gone..its still on. At least here in CT. And its on PBSKids Station cause i watched it the other night babysittng (after the kids went to bed cause I'm cool like that)

                    Guy Smiley! I remember him! I'll always remember one segment they did with him, because it scared the HELL out of me when I was a little kid. One of the contestants on his game show was a talking foot. That's right, a human foot with someone giving it a voice. I believe they had an oversized nose too.

                    He may have been mentioned earlier, but does anyone remember the guy who would paint numbers on things? Like, he would paint an 11 on a window, and someone would wipe it off. Also, I seem to recall something they did where they showed live-action footage of people, but it was filmed from a perspective that made viewers think they were giants. For example, they showed this guy getting ready in the morning, and the sound of him brushing his teeth was heavily amplified.

                    I had a lot of Sesame Street records including Big Bird Leads the Band, The Best of Ernie, Let Your Feelings Show, and Born to Add (the last one being a nod to Springsteen's Born to Run).

                      I also remember:

                      - The clip with a man making things go up and down with a remote.

                      - The "Teeny Little Super Guy" shorts (Man I miss those).

                      - The song "It's All Right to Cry" where they showed a montage of kids crying.

                      - The animated sketch with the revolving colored circles and the white circles being played to creepy choir music, which has been mentioned from an earlier post.

                      - Also the claymated Arnold character (Before he was on Nick), where he would go on adventures in his recliner that would sprout wheels, jet skis, or a propeller, and the creatures around him said "Hello Arnold" to him.

                      - The "Doggie Paddle" song, or whatever it was called, with the montage of dogs swimming.

                      - The sketch which showed blind kids at a park, listening to and identifying the sounds around him. When they were under a ramada when it was raining hard, their instructor was playing "If You're Happy and you Know It" on an autoharp, which I thought was the coolest instrument ever!

                      - "Imagine That" by Ernie.

                      Anyone else remember these sketches?

                        I remember that the best! But reading all this just makes me depressed about how it is now, seriously, technology doesn't need to be used in everything, especially overused like it is now in SS. Wow i miss the good old days when fun was fun and not a computer animation.

                          Things I remember from Sesame Street

                          * The sketch with Grover as the waiter of a restaurant,and keeps getting that guy's order wrongand the guy getting more and more frustrated.
                          * Teeny Little Super Guy - I used to love his voice! It was funny ^^
                          * When Slimy went into space.
                          * The Grouchuteers. I wanted to be one when I was younger! It gave me a excuse to be dirty all the time.. "That's what I call doin' the grouch!"
                          * BARKLEY! He was so cute!
                          * "Batty Batty Batty Batty Bat!" - If anyone has that song on MP3,I'l llove you forever...I love The Count. :)
                          * When Big Bird, Louise and co went hiking around Sesame Street and every 5 seconds Big Bird would stop because he said he was hungry or something like that.
                          * "C is for cookie!" - Oh Cookie, Cookie Cookie starts with C!

                            when slimey went into space was the ultimate classic for anyone. It made me cry. I just saw it as a rerun not to long ago, it brought back alot of old memories.

                                It feels more and more like the Sesame street in Europe (where I live) consists of nothing of the US material. But that which I remember I have great fond memories of. Like when Ernie made a whole big fuss of him counting up to ten, much to Bert's annoyance. Count von Counts was always a recipe for laughter. When he sent himself mail and then began counting the letters, I found that hilarious. My family were concerned when I told them this... I still wonder why. :roll: Oh well. I can name loads more, like when Ernie kept raising and lowering the volume on the radio and then placed the volume knob on Bert and lowered his volume. Classic!

                                  - Oscar and Grungetta going on a road trip and having their jalopy getting stuck in the mud on "Stuck in the Mud Street."

                                  - The song "I'm So Curious," which I've just seen last Sunday on Plaza Sesamo, only in Spanish!

                                  - The song with those two Latino kid muppets singing "Que calor! si, si, senor! Let's fry an egg on the cement, it's so caliente!" or however it went.

                                  - Robin Williams doing weird stuff with his shoe.

                                  - The "Wubba Wubba" song that guest-starred Whoopi Goldberg.

                                  - The songs "Everybody Eats" and "Everybody Sleeps."

                                  - The clip with the girl walking in the snow with her dad.

                                  - The girl who was talking about her dog and how she takes care of her.

                                  - The clip with Bert and Ernie on a fishing trip, and then Ernie shouts "Heeeeere fishy fishy fishy," and the fish fly into his boat.

                                  - The clips of the animated red typewriter/robot on wheels, who went "noony noony noony" everytime he moved, and when he typed a letter to introduce to the viewers (e.g., the letter "U" caused an umbrella to appear), unfortunate stuff happened to him (e.g., the umbrella "swallowed him up";).

                                  - "The Adventures of Alphaboy," with a superhero kid whose adventures were always based on a certain letter.

                                    Oh yeah, one thing I must name. One segment of the European Sesame street was this soap-opera spoof called "The search for happiness" or somethng like that. Everyone in the family had name that included "Happy" or something of the sorts (I saw it in Icelandic).
                                    The brother and sister, the only appearing characters apart from their grandma, went hysteric when the sister got dirt on her shoes, crying that they'd failed their search for happiness because there was dirt on her shoes. The grandma was the only person down-to-earth, but she failed to sway the brother and sister. This was an early lesson to not watch soap operas, and I still find it so funny that I normally start shaking with laughter every time I think of it.

                                        - "C if for Cookie." (Who doesn't remember that song?)

                                        - The "Do The Rubber Duck" song. I thought it was disturbing to see all those muppets bathing in the same bathtub.

                                        - The song about a hummingbird that was sung by Celia Cruz and Big Bird, I think.

                                        - The animated sketch "Can You Eat It?" starring Don Carrot. It had two contestants who had to guess the food that appeared on screen, then eat it. The male contestant doesn't eat any of the food, but his opponent eats all of it.

                                        - The clip that had Michael Chang teaching Big Bird how to play tennis, and Michael helped Big Bird tie his massive shoes.

                                        - "Squeal of Fortune" starring Pat Playjacks and Velma Blank, which had a pig that was tied to a wheel, and he squealed every time the wheel was spun (Poor pig!).

                                        - The clip which showed kids with Down Syndrome swimming with dolphins (Yes, this was shown on Sesame Street.).

                                        - The song "It takes a lot of little nuts to make a jar of peanut butter," which showed how peanut butter was made.
