They never changed Cookie Monster to Veggie Monster, nor did Sesame Workshop ever had any intention of changing Cookie Monster. That was a rumor that started ever since 2005 when they showed A Cookie is a Sometimes Food which people believed that Cookie Monster sung that song. In actuality, it was Hoots the Owl that sang that song to Cookie Monster and then at the end he says "Sometimes is now" and gobbles up the whole plate of cookies. The people at Sesame Workshop has already conformed that Veggie Monster rumor is false, they're still going to keep him as Cookie Monster. Not only that, but they actually did a segment on the show in response to the whole Veggie Monster rumor. I also liked the segments with Cucille the shapeshifting orange blob.
It's true that Cookie Monster has expanded his eating habits in which he would eat fruits and vegetables, and well... just about anything. However, Cookie Monster eating fruits and vegetables is also nothing new. That type of thing goes back to the to the 70s during an interview with Jim Henson. He states that he used Cookie Monster in a commercial to promote healthy foods. Or, in Sesame Street, he did a rap song in 1986 called "Healthy Foods" which is where Cookie Monster is going all over fruits and vegetables. Sesame Workshop is not changing Cookie Monster, he's still mostly the same now as he was back then.
Having said that, there's a lot of Sesame Street segments that I enjoy watching as a kid and that I can still watch as an adult. One example is when Bert and Ernie were going down a pyramid and they find 2 statues that look just like them. I also liked the segments that feature Cecile the orange shapeshifting blob. One Sesame Street segment that I remember as I kid that I've been trying to find was when a man was singing a song about "between". Does anyone remember that? There's a lot that I can remember as a kid.
