If I remember correctly, in their last season, the Smurfs became lost in time. There were these crystals that Papa and Brainy would constantly try to arrange in ways that would take them back to their own time and village, but it always seemed to fail for one reason or another. I remember liking this format way more as a kid than just smurfing trala through the forest, but some have said this era is what killed the tv show. Does anyone remember this? Everyone I've spoken to just looks perplexed when I bring it up. If you do, I'd like to know if the title changed or had a subtitle (like Smurfs: Trapped in Time or whatever) and the lyrics to the theme (if there were any) as I believe it was changed. As a matter of fact, if anyone has the Intro to this incarnation, I'd love to see it posted!!!

Here's a website I found awhile ago that lists every episode of the smurfs with a description. I don't remember the last season but your right they did time travel.

You see!? This is exactly the kind of response I usually get to this question. But yes...for at least the thirty-eight episodes of the last season, the Smurfs had a plot. Thanks for the link, Badkitty. Now I know I'm not crazy. And I'd still really like to see the intro!

Now I know why I did not remember that storyline. I stopped watching The Smurfs probably round season 7, looking at the years it was out. I definitely did not watch it in 89-90.

so the Smurfs didn't have an official "last episode" huh?

I don't know. The link Badkitty gave us above describes the last episode as pretty benign. Nothing that changed the overall continuity of the show. But an earlier topic right here on retrojunk has some people asking questions about an episode they supposedly saw where all the smurfs were killed! I don't remember anything remotely like that, and I can't see how anyone would allow something like that on the air. But someone else said they saw it too. So...I dunno.
