Yeah , what's going on in New Orleans and the other cities that got hit is just heartbreaking. I feel so bad for all those people, how horrible would it be to loose everything. People are dying that don't need to die. Personally I think the goverment should've acted quicker and alot of lives would've been saved. We've got alot of people out here in kansas City wanting to help take some families in. There's a lady here that has 60 apartments that she is willing to put people up in but can't find any agencies that are willing to listen. She was going to pay for a charter to pick them up and red cross or whoever told her it's stupid to send people that far away. It's really frustrating, you never would think that something like this would happen on US soil. There have been more than 50 countries that have offered aid so far in one way or another. Australia has donated 8 million and even Cuba offered to help. It may not be as much as we give but I guess at least these countries are willing to help in some way. One thing that we need to keep in mind is that most of the countries we help are poor countries that really don't have the means to return the favor. Just in case anyone is wondering these are the countries that have donated so far.

Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Guatemala, Paraguay, Belgium, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Italy, Guyana, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Lithuania, Spain, Dominica, Norway, Cuba, Bahamas, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ecuador, Iceland, India, Jordan, Luxembourg, the Philippines, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey

Well this is good to hear. Thanks for putting that up BadKitty. I looked at my old post and I realize, I was angry with the current situation I knew of 3 days ago, so I still mean everything I said. But I will add to my sentiments that I'm really glad to hear that other countries are still concerned enough to help us when we need it. I know a lot of it is politics, but it's still very appreciated. ^^

I know there's so much we could've done to avoid certain things, and many lives could've been saved, but I think those sentiments come too little and too late right now. It'll be great for future reference, but if we remember how and when the events unfolded, we did what we thought was best at the time and nobody could've predicted that it would be this bad. And those that say they did, I give them very little if any credit now that it's already happened. I think most of us would've made relatively the same choices. Just my sentiments about what I've heard on that subject.

And as far as this is concerned... I'm not interested in hearing about how this disaster is being covered on the news, relates to Bush's feelings towards black people. This no doubt, stems from the extreemly partisan accusations of Bush being more or less "The Devil" and responsible for everything bad that happens. The statement is riddiculous, unfounded, and unneccessary in my opinion. The last thing we need is someone pointing fingers. I'd rather we cooperate than try to find someone to pin it on.

And if you want to talk about the politics surrounding this, I think that that discussion belongs in a different thread if you're going to talk about it, so don't discuss it here.

Right now, I hope anyone close enough and/or with any available time or resources puts up something to help our neighbors in the flooded areas. In North Dakota we've delt with bad floods before and we've usually been able to help everyone with shelter and schooling, even if it meant haveing someone live in your house for a month or two, or allowing for kids to attend local schools even if they're private ones, or even if it's just putting 5 bucks in for the reconstruction, relocation, and aid to hurting areas. But that's because many of the people here are willing to help in some way no matter how it inconveniences them, one of the reasons I like liveing here. Hurricane Katarina's victims is a situation that's similar but a lot bigger and requires that same generosity on a much larger scale. Are you going to use the 25 bucks you saved by thinking it'll be fine without your input for something better? I sincerely doubt it. Do what you can when you can even if you're over a thousand miles away. I'm glad I can say I added the 20 dollars I had in my wallet to the relief fund when I came across the fund raiser on my campus. I was probably going to use it on printing paper or one of my phone bills, but I think it went to a much worthier cause.

And in the true Forest Gump fashion,
"That's all I have to say about that."

Kray.....I feel the same way. I should have added my opinion with the post. I was angry when I found this clip. That's all I will say about this from now on.

I'm glad we agree, I'd like you to know that I'm asking to keep politics out of this conversation, not what you were saying by bringing it up. It's true that it's a part of what's going on here, but I just think there should be a separate place for a more strongly political discussion of Katarina, since I kinda foresaw one comeing out of it. I'm not knocking you or anything for bringing it up, in case you were thinking that. ^^

EDIT: I re-worded the warning so I don't sound so forbidding about it the subject. Sorry about that.

TMNT, I would like to, however I am also in NY and will be relocating to MD soon, but....I will look into it. How bout you, are you going to go and volunteer? I believe on the news they said that they are really screening volunteers and obviously putting them through extensive training because NOBODY is mentally prepared to deal with what's to be reavealed (numerous decapitated bodies). I know that they said in the coming months they will be needing contractors, architectures, so on and so forth. I don't know your occupation, but maybe it can help out in some way  .
