TMNT 9 years 3 months ago Posts: 5193	This may well be as bad as the tsunami - how do you hold back a lake? the levees are so badly breached that the water keeps pouring into the city. And what levees remain, are only holding the water in the city now. Today they had to evacuate 4 hospitals that are flooded and running out of fuel for their generators. This is the worst hurricane I can remember ever What a terrible disaster, and who knows how many have died? There may be thousands, by the end of it. That is sad news For the Member of Retro Junks who Lives in New Orleans please Read this Before Posting your feeling about what going on in New Orleans

System 9 years 3 months ago Posts: 74809	Yeah, my heart sincerely goes out to ALL of them. If none of us can volunteer then the most we can do is donate WHATEVER we can and keep them in our prayers (no matter who you worship). What's really bothering me is the IGNORANT people who are like.."well, they should've left when they were told", or "its their fault and they deserve it", I know its hard to believe, but go witness it for yourself on some of these major news message boards . Generally speaking, if you've never been in a POOR or PO (dirt ass poor) situation with no money let alone a hurricane, then you really cannot understand what they are going through and why they stayed. I can speak from my own experience that most people in hurricane prone areas do not feel that the storm will be that bad and decide to stay. Its just.....so sad

ataristic 9 years 3 months ago Posts: 493	the rescue operation is a total mess, here in houston there are tons of people who want to volunteer yet FEMA is not accepting them, hell they where even turning evacuees away from the astrodome, i hope san antonio does a better job.

TMNT 9 years 3 months ago Posts: 5193	Hey guys Why are the other Country not helping us in New Orleans We are helping them in the War So why are they not Helping us here I Was just watch the New Orleans there are Fire breaking out in the Downtown and Gun shot too they said on Msnbc. I think some country need to help us here.

I think some country need to help us here. Ok, I'm gonna be honest, look at the US's race relations with other countries. Unless I'm seeing things, and correct me if I'm wrong, other countries do not give a damn about us right now. I'm not saying that there aren't your few and true humanitarians who sincerely care, but if Santa had to choose who was naughty or nice....we would get a lump of coal, if anything, in our stockings. This is just from my perspective. *Note:I'm not saying its ok for them to ignore us just stating reality.

Kray 9 years 3 months ago Posts: 944	Actually, Mexico is sending funds to to the recovery efforts, they opened up a huge account for all donatioons gathered by the people in Mexico who wish to send help, and then they'll send it to us in about two weeks when the donations come in. So at least some countries care about how bad this is. And personally from my perspective I think we almost help other countries too much. Look at how many times we've helped African nations, and other countries at war like Bosnia, and the money we sent to Britain when the Bus bombing occurred. If anything they owe the US something in my opinion. Not that we should demand it from them or anything it'd just be nice if it didn't seem like wasted efforts and concerns. I understand that some countries resent the US, but come on! This is a huge disaster! They just better not bitch if we don't lift a finger to help them in a similar situation. And I'm starting to rant... See this is the kind of sentiments that start up when no one seems to help each other out. But if other countries don't want to help at all cause they feel that this is our problem to deal with then fine, but what goes around comes around.

Badkitty 9 years 2 months ago Posts: 922	Yeah , what's going on in New Orleans and the other cities that got hit is just heartbreaking. I feel so bad for all those people, how horrible would it be to loose everything. People are dying that don't need to die. Personally I think the goverment should've acted quicker and alot of lives would've been saved. We've got alot of people out here in kansas City wanting to help take some families in. There's a lady here that has 60 apartments that she is willing to put people up in but can't find any agencies that are willing to listen. She was going to pay for a charter to pick them up and red cross or whoever told her it's stupid to send people that far away. It's really frustrating, you never would think that something like this would happen on US soil. There have been more than 50 countries that have offered aid so far in one way or another. Australia has donated 8 million and even Cuba offered to help. It may not be as much as we give but I guess at least these countries are willing to help in some way. One thing that we need to keep in mind is that most of the countries we help are poor countries that really don't have the means to return the favor. Just in case anyone is wondering these are the countries that have donated so far. Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Guatemala, Paraguay, Belgium, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Italy, Guyana, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Lithuania, Spain, Dominica, Norway, Cuba, Bahamas, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ecuador, Iceland, India, Jordan, Luxembourg, the Philippines, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey

A couple neighbors are also going to be holding a fundraiser that I will participate in and I have a bunch of clothes and things for some families that have relocated here.

System 9 years 2 months ago Posts: 74809	Well, although my funds are REALLY tight, you should be happy to know that I DID DONATE $5.00 to The Salavation Army. I'll probably donate up to $100 at the end of this month (payday) along with clothes (b/c in spite of what's been stated, they will need clothes). In the meantime, all I can and will continue to do is pray. On another note, it pisses me off that this political side is blaming that one, black vs white , and so on and so forth. Those who were not affected by this storm in any way have no right to be so selfish right now! These people (young, middle, old,all races/religions) are not only going to be deeply dealing with health and financial issues, but psychological as well. Just think about the many young children who saw numerous of dead bodies and suffered, it will have a neverending effect on them! I don't think people are really dwelling on that . C'mon, lets FOCUS America, lets FOCUS!

System 9 years 2 months ago Posts: 74809	TMNT, I would like to, however I am also in NY and will be relocating to MD soon, but....I will look into it. How bout you, are you going to go and volunteer? I believe on the news they said that they are really screening volunteers and obviously putting them through extensive training because NOBODY is mentally prepared to deal with what's to be reavealed (numerous decapitated bodies). I know that they said in the coming months they will be needing contractors, architectures, so on and so forth. I don't know your occupation, but maybe it can help out in some way .
