That's only because most people outgrow cartoons around that time.

When they killed off the old reruns of Pete and Pete,Salute your Shorts and Hey Dude. The show that I really miss the most on is Welcome Freshmen.

I notice Nick at Nite sucks also now because when I was a kid they had a huge lineup of different shows becaue I remember back in Sixth or Seveth Grade I always stayed up real late to watch shows like Rhoda and Phyllis.

Oh man I know! Roseanne and Full House Nick at Nite? I don’t think so! Nick at Night used to be so good. I loved when they did the Block Party Summer. Lucy Tuesdays, Bewitched Be-Wednesdays… Good stuff! Again, just goes to show ya, nothing’s as good as it used to be.

I watched Nickelodeon religiously as a kid, from You Can't Do That On Television to Pinwheel. I loved that era of Nick. You just can't go wrong with Danger Mouse and Banana Man!
For me the point where it started to go down hill was when the creator of Ren and Stimpy lost creative control of the show. I don't know which specific year that was, but it was evident that things had changed, as the overall feel of the show was forever watered down. (No more painted close-ups, etc)
The channel still help up for awhile, with Nick At Night B&Ws like Car 54, Mr. Ed, Donna Reed, and Dennis the Menace to name a few. I guess it's a mixture of taste and age for everyone.

Well, as for Nick at Nite- sad as it is, in the 80's they'd show shows from the 50's-60's era. Shows that aired 30 years previous...now they're showing shows from the 80's (not too many from the 70's I notice...) and that was 20-30 years ago (the few 70's shows they do in fact show).

But yes, I do feel a tad offended to see Full House being deemed a "classic" or "oldie". They could at least pick some goodies like St. Elsewhere, Hill Street Blues, One Day at a Time, Gimmie a Break, etc... what about "Family"? There ya go. But they wouldn't listen to a simple folk like myself who doesn't even really watch TV anyways now because of the sheer suckage of it all...

the 80s and early 90s were the best time for Nick.... Nick At Nite sucked when they started to convert to 80s programming. Now they how like every show back to back atleast twice. I mean come on fill the void with new shows or something.

I would say they really went down the crapper when Doug Went to Disney The Rugrats episodes after the first movie The All That New cast *UGH* Basicly I would say around 2001 around the area.

I rember that too, but only the frog. dunno why. But back on subject, I believe the fallout of Nick started around late 98- early 99. Most of the good shows fell of the face of the earth more or less around that time, and the rise of cartoon network occured then as well. Although they have also recently followed a similar pattern. (i watched both channels, so I didn't play favorites.) similarly, the golden age of all that was the first three seasons. The reunion episode is still my favorite.

Gullah Gullah Island was a little bit out of my time, i was already in school when it was on but i would watch it when i was sick or had a flex day or something. I, along with a lot of other people, think Nick started to suck around '97ish. The newer shows just have something about them that i don't like. I guess cuz it's aimed at a new generation, i don't know. I do know i am tired of Nick At Nite. I remember staying up late to watch Lucy and Mary Tyler Moore and other shows that were old and you couldn't see anywhere else. Now it's all shows from the late 80's and 90's. I mean, Full House and Rosanne are still in syndication on other channels for crying out loud. Do they really need to devote a whole block to them? I know Fresh Prince is a great show and all, but i don't know how i feel about it being on Nick At Nite, i mean, i remember watching these episodes when they were new ya know? does that make me old? cuz i don't think i am, i'm only 21 here. I do however wish they would show Who's The Boss again though, i LOVED that show.

I stopped watching regularly sometime around '97 or '98, but looking at what others have said on this thread, I would have to say that there is more consensus around what age you were when it went downhill in your eyes rather than around a specific year.

Well, when they first started doing original programming, I was 14. You can just add that to 1977 and you'll get the year I stopped watching Nickelodeon.

I think the show that really killed it for me was Spongebob Sqaurepants it makes me want to vomit. I really can't stand the dirrection that Nickelodeon has taken their entire channel. i really want a "nickrewind" channel, i would do anything for it.

Early 2000s. The retro shows were knocked off in the mod-late 90s, but i grew up to many other shows, rocket power, hey arnold, catdog, which ran into the 2000s.

I think it everything really started to suck after 9/11. REALLY, everything. I know its for the good of our country, but...
