Okay, you guys can throw some stones at me for saying this but...

    It's always sucked.

Here's the story. I didn't even know what Nickelodeon was until I got to kindergarten. Some kids were talking about it so I was asking them about it, and they described some of the shows. They sounded so stupid to me. So they brought in some books, etc about them. Totally turned off by them. Note that I was in kindergarten during the 1992-1993 school year.

Maybe it was just me. I never liked Ninja Turtles either. I was a PBS guy who liked Mr. Rogers, Square One, Carmen Sandiego, Reading Ranbow and eventually got into Power Rangers and Killer Tomatoes on FOX. Also a big Wheel of Fortune fan from birth. Perhaps I was raised on too different of TV to understand those cartoons on Nickelodeon?

The first time I actually saw one was when my cousin was up in 2000 and she wanted to watch Sponge Bob. It didn't make any sense!!!

Did you stop watching Nickelodeon in 1991, Hess? That's the year I've pretty much abandoned it. I could never get into the post-Nicktoons shows.

I love Nickelodon, and I still do, but to a slightly lesser extent.

I don't think Nickelodeon sucks. I watch Neds Declassified and Fairly Odd Parents all the time.

There's a few good shows, like Ned's Declassifed School Survival Guide, very little of Spongebob, and some of the other cartoons like Jimmy Neutron and Fairly Oddparents are very quoteable and make for some decent quotes. Not good shows, but some of the lines are funny and very quoteable among friends.

What really killed it is, the new All That. It is AWFUL. Also, the messy scheduling. What happened to shows like Just for Kicks, Romeo, and Catscratch. I know they where canceled because they where bad, but really... Nick just aired them at funny times and gave them little attention, and BAM they are gone.

I'd say it started to fall around 1998-1999 then went completely kaputz in 2000-2001. The whole golden age theory plays a bit of a part in it, but really, childrens shows are starting to suck big time, mostly for two reasons.

                            1) Sacrificing quality to make things cheaper. A primary objective for all businesses is to cut as many corners as possible when making the finished product. Cartoons today just recycle and repackage ideas, and put them into some artwork that was thrown together in some photoshop-ish like program

                            2) The whole teen-scene bull crap. Like mentioned earlier, a lot of these shows tell kids that anyone can have their own band and become famous and popular, when in reality, much like becoming a proffessional sports player, the odds of becoming famous are really quite slim.

I'd say mid-nineties. But really, NOTHING'S as good as it used to be.

I would say around the 2000's. The fall of All That is a good example.

I'll tell you the real reason Nick sucks:

When Klasky-Csupo cancelled all of it's cartoons on there around 2004-2005, that's when Nick started to suck.

That was the meat of Nick during the late 90's - early 2000's!

I think it took a nosedive around '93-94. (Heh, around the time *I* started High School!) I miss the good stuff- but I suppose "good" is realitive. I enjoyed Nick Jr when it was Pinwheel, Dr. Snuggles, Maya the Bee, Noozles, Little Koala, Maple Town and Todays Special (and even Eureeka's Castle).

Then the regualr stuff: Mr. Wizard, You Can't Do That... Danger Mouse, TURKEY TV, Out of Control, Hey Dude, Fifteen, Welcome Freshmen, Don't Just Sit There, Clarissa.

And I miss SNICK. Rugrats were great until they sold out, and Disney bought out DOUG.

They still show "Rugrats" but it comes on at 6:00/6:30 in the morning.
