Turkey Television is seldom talked about because almost nobody remembers it. lol. I admit, all i really remember is the intro.
Mr. Wizards World? Wasn't that a older show? I think my dad watched that as a kid.

I totally remember it. The problem is that there is nothing on the web other than the theme song or maybe two pictures to help jog peoples memories, not even a YouTube clip.

I remember Turkey Tv that was cool mostly everyone including myself talks about Snick Era has being the golden age of Nick. The debate of which era is the best will go on for a while. In fact it would be a good topic and thread to do right here I think it would be cool.

OMG...thread number 2,396 on this subject. I'll reply again, though. :D

I'd say 1999, from a current view (they sold out this year, seriously). Though, I did watch Nick for fun up to about 2003. Now, I only watch certain shows (SB and Ned) as opposed to turning it on when and watching whatever they are showing.

All the good shows stopped around 98 and all the s**t shows started in 99.
I only watched it after about 98 for the reruns of old shows like alex mack and the rest.

Interesting story. I think that proves it.

                    -

Because of the golden age myth it's hard to say that Nickelodeon just started to suck. It's likely that at 1999 we just stopped being able to understand kid's shows, and we are more leniant of shows of our day. But in the case of Nickelodeon I really do think Nickelodeon started to suck.

                    1. Notice how the TV schedule for Nick is messy and difficult to keep track of. It just goes to show they aren't airing TV shows based on quality.

                    2. It's normal for a company to have so much talent under one roof and then to suddenly lose it. TV networks, magazines, TV shows, etc all have a life and when it passes they just become a shadow of it's former self. The Nickelodeon writers had a great deal at first. Break into the industry by rewriting adult shows for kids. The Twilight Zone becomes Are You Afraid of the Dark, Saturday Night Live becomes All That, and others. But eventually the adult writers move on to write for shows for more lucrative adult shows.

                    3. It was said many times during Nickelodeon's golden years that the networks were being run by idiots. I can actually remember reading comments like this outside of Nickelodeon approven material. This isn't something that just suddenly happened. This was was in the works for awhile.

                    4. Nickelodeon's new Nick Toons feature amatuerish character designs, socially unintelligent dialogue, less detailed animation, and in the case of Jimmy Neutron the show actually brings back forgotten offensive racist stereotypes.

Of course I still remember the shows on Nickelodeon that I used to hate during their golden years. And I remember when Nickelodoen first started and it didn't work out too well at first. But there really was a time in which you could actually look forward to watching many different shows one after the other.

That would be the case if the toons stayed on air. It was when they announced thier new lineup, with all those crappy unoriginal cartoons that replace the Nicktoons.. In that new lineup, I think Doug, and some others were taken away.. In my opinion, anyway. I'm 15, but older people say tahtit began to suck when the Nicktoons came out. I loved the nicktoons.

OMG! Does anyone remember Prometheus and Bob?

Don't mistake Spongebob Squarepants for many other bad Nickelodeon shows. Spongebob is actually the last good show ever made for Nickelodeon. Many people who are totally not inclined to watch Nickelodeon actually starting watching Nick to watch Spongebob.

Spongebob just came in at the wrong time when Nick was already going downhill. Spongebob is okay with me , too me all it is , is like Ren Stimpy but not has nasty and gross like it. Nick as had some good shows to me since Spongebob has came out like As Told by Ginger that was cool, Avatar is okay I try to watch it when I can. Nick is missing the one thing that makes a station or channel good Stability. That's what Disney, Cartoon network is struggling with. In the 90's you could count on Snick to make you laugh, cry, scare, and excite you. Those shows had were stable why do you think everyone talks about just those shows of Snick from 92-96, because we knew those shows were going to be on.Shows after that time have not been stable. If you want example look at Animorphs, The 101 deeds of Eddie Mcdowd, Allen Strange, Cousin Skeeter, those shows only lasted about what two years. That's the time right when you get comfortable with a show being on at a certain time.Nick is over it's dead and there's nothing that it can do.

It went through various stages of deterioration. For me the 'Golden Age' was '86-'91, or maybe more like '89-'91 for ME since that's when I started watching the network. But there was still a lot of left over earlier stuff that I was able to experience. The first stage of decay, 1991, came about by the influx of far too many teen shows. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed most of them myself but it just appeared to be a noticable turning point in the philosophy of the channel(which would build gradually into what it's become presently). I mean this was supposed to be a CHILDREN'S network, so why the centering on 15 year-olds? As much I liked the shows, I found myself wondering that very thing from time to time as a 8-9 year-old.

The next stage of decline took place in 1993, and was marked by the replacement of international cartoons with homemade cartoons(i.e Nicktoons, which I did enjoy the first few of) and further increase of teen shows along with third rate YCDTOTV type programs(none of which held a candle, of course). Again, I was still hooked on the channel, but I couldn't help but recognize that it was becoming a very different channel. Then by '96 it was becoming largely what you see of the channel now. I still watched a lot of the channel and enjoyed a few of the newer shows(Kenan & Kel comes to mind) but I could also recognize that the channel just wasn't what it used to be. The new shows weren't like the older shows. A 'Hey Arnold' (which was the official 'death' of Nicktoons for me) just didn't live up to 'Doug' and stuff like Shelby Woo and Space Cases just didn't attract my interest(and lacked the cleverness even of their prior teen shows). The non-homegrown toons were gradually weened out completely and the network becoming mostly a tweeny bopper haven. The imagination, uniqueness and creativity I remembered Nick for was replaced with basically an junior MTV.

So I'd say the nail in the coffin was 1996(built up to starting in '91, of course), though I continued to watch various shows before all but abandoning it around late '97. (Although I am another of those who tunes in just for Spongebob. Though even this is waning since most of the post-se 1 episodes do little for me and I've begun to tire of the good ones.)

I disagree with Saturday_Supercade, Ducktalesfan1977 and Glasseye. I don't think Nickelodeon went downhill with the Nicktoons. I used to watch Nick started back in 1991 and enjoyed watching it every weekend and it was tons of fun. The shows were creative and entertaining.

I agree with almost everyone else though, Nickelodeon started sucking around 1996/7. That's when they cancelled and took off all of the good shows and replaced them with rubbish. Now the network's nothing but a tween factory.

I wish they would make a classic Nick channel. They could of done this a few years ago, Viacom doesn't care about Nick's past.
