I think it depends on your age and your personal likes. I was never much of a Nickelodeon person, so I don't feel properly equipped to make a decision like this.

In the end, it all lies with you.

I dunno, I'd give it another year or so than that... but yeah, the point is pretty much the same- I, for one, felt very betrayed.

For me it was '99 aswell.
I used to always watch it at my friends and on new years when i was younger (before the age of 12) we used to watch the count down to the new year and run out the house screaming with pots and pans saying happy new year(this being before we found access to fireworks through and uncle of his).
All the good shows stopped around 98 and all the shit shows started in 99.
I only watched it after about 98 for the reruns of old shows like alex mack and the rest.

I'd say Late Nineties, when all the crap started to pop up and old, classic shows got pushed to either horrible time slots or taken off the air completely.

a few good shows were still being played in the early 2000s but, if your talkin when nick STARTED turning into suckaloadeon, then yea i think around 1999 would be the time.

Interesting story. I think that proves it.

                      -

Because of the golden age myth it's hard to say that Nickelodeon just started to suck. It's likely that at 1999 we just stopped being able to understand kid's shows, and we are more leniant of shows of our day. But in the case of Nickelodeon I really do think Nickelodeon started to suck.

                      1. Notice how the TV schedule for Nick is messy and difficult to keep track of. It just goes to show they aren't airing TV shows based on quality.

                      2. It's normal for a company to have so much talent under one roof and then to suddenly lose it. TV networks, magazines, TV shows, etc all have a life and when it passes they just become a shadow of it's former self. The Nickelodeon writers had a great deal at first. Break into the industry by rewriting adult shows for kids. The Twilight Zone becomes Are You Afraid of the Dark, Saturday Night Live becomes All That, and others. But eventually the adult writers move on to write for shows for more lucrative adult shows.

                      3. It was said many times during Nickelodeon's golden years that the networks were being run by idiots. I can actually remember reading comments like this outside of Nickelodeon approven material. This isn't something that just suddenly happened. This was was in the works for awhile.

                      4. Nickelodeon's new Nick Toons feature amatuerish character designs, socially unintelligent dialogue, less detailed animation, and in the case of Jimmy Neutron the show actually brings back forgotten offensive racist stereotypes.

Of course I still remember the shows on Nickelodeon that I used to hate during their golden years. And I remember when Nickelodoen first started and it didn't work out too well at first. But there really was a time in which you could actually look forward to watching many different shows one after the other.

Ok everone, I think I'm talking about the Australian Nickelodeon here. For me, it started to suck around 2001;when all those really pointless cartoons came in.

Once shows like "Jimmy Neutron" and "The Fairly Odd Parents" and things of that nature started to come into circulation, it was all bad. What year would you say? 2001? I didn't know, but once I stopped seeing "Rocko's Modern Life" and "AHHH!!! Real Monters" I knew that the Nick Dynasty was over.

                                a Shame too...

Personally, the only good show on there now is Avatar: The Last Airbender, and that's because of it's style and good (okay, I may be offending some people here) writing.

I don't like shows about teens in bands because they're all living the pipe-dream of some day being rich, popular and famous, which gives aspiring musicians (who aren't manufactured crap with actual *TALENT*) a bad name.

I would say around 1997 when CatDog premiered.

...and who else here besides me is fed up of hearing Tom Kenney's voice in EVERY SINGLE CURRENT CARTOON?! Sure, he was good at one point, but now he's voice acting has deteriorated since, I dunno, 2003-2004, and even before hand. and to be Honest, his high-pitched voices (SpongeBob and Jake Spider Monkey) really annoy me, even more so than Howie Mandell's voice of Skeeter (of Muppet Babies) and Bobby Generic (of Bobby's World)

Off Topic: I sure hope he doesn't voice any characters for the upcoming Warner Bros. remake of the ThunderCats. *shudders at the idea of Tom Kenney voicing Snarf.*

it's starting to suck because we miss the shows we used to watch when we were younger. This is a whole new generation, reaching out to a newer generation of kids. Innovation, cleansingness. I bet when these kids grow older, they'll want Nickelodeon to show Jimmy Neutron, Zoey 101, Fairly Odd Parents, etc again and they'll rant about how Nickelodeon sucks, blah blah blah. I have neutral feelings about Nickelodeon on the other hand, I do miss the shows I used to watch when I was kid and I'd love to see them come back on air. That is why I think the Nickelodeon Classics channel should be created.

On the current Nickelodeon, I'm a huge fan of Drake and Josh so shoot me :P

The only show on Nick worth watching anymore is Spongebob. :(

Shows like "Rugrats" have just gotten more and more dumbed down recently.

I think there's something to be said for us only thinking this because of nostalgia... but cartoons, especially Nick ones, have definetly gotten less inteligent and less creative... most of them are just the same thing repackaged over and over again. And I am sooo sick of the boy-crazy, melodramatic teen-scene...
I do happen to enjoy the Fairly Oddparents every now and then, and I am definetly a fan of Avatar...
