That isnt really true. Bacteria mutate, much the same as anything else does, so the new strains around now would be far different than the aliens were exposed to however long ago they set up their machinery on earth. This isnt unlike how when Europeans came to the Americas they infected the native inhabitants with whatever they were carrying, though the Europeans had developed an immunity.
Visually the movie is amazing. I love the look Spielberg has been giving his movies lately (the process used is called ENR, not that anybody knows or cares what that is). The machines were cool as hell, and even the sounds they made were perfect.
However, I hated...HATED...Tom Cruise's character. I dont buy that he would not know that his daughter is allergic to peanuts, for example. But then I get testy with the multitude of poor fathers I see in film and on TV.
