retrogammer 8 years 12 days ago Posts: 41	I remember in my neighborhood back in the 80s some kids like myself went barefoot every chance we got even in cold weather while most others never seemed to be without shoes and socks. In fact I remember going over with my mom to some of the neighbors houses (somethimes late at night) so I could hang out with their kid and so my mom could catch up with the neighborhood gossip. I remember two in particular would still be wearing their shoes that they wore to school. (anyone encounter this?) Meaning their feet were in those shoes for 12 plus hours! They also went to bed in socks. Kids did the same thing on TV so a started thinking I was in the minority be going barefoot. I remeber getting made fun of by a few kids and getting comments from parents like "Where are your shoes?" "Can't your parent afford shoes for you?" Because of this I quit going barefoot as it seemed like the "cool kids" wore Jordans. Even today I'm never without shoes. Things seem to have have changed, kids wear sandals and flip-flops which was something that was unheard of on boys when I was a kid. Others still go barefoot and no one seems to says anything. You were either barefoot or wore shoes when I was a kid. Also many homes are adapting a no shoe policies now a days, something that I also never incountered back then. Even on TV I'm seeing more barefeet. Maybe I should have been born in the 90s instead of the late 70s. Na they didn't fine and throw kids in jail very much back then and we could drink soda at school. Oh and don't forget Saturday morning and after school cartoons

When I was a young'un, my parents took me to the mall. There was a woman with sandals. I screamed "EW!" as loud as I could, pointed at the poor lady and shouted "THAT LADY HAS BARE FEET!"

Astera 8 years 12 days ago Posts: 88	I always wear shoes, or at least socks. Of course, my entire house is either tile or hard wood so that's probably a reason. I'd probably be barefoot more often if we had carpet. When I was a kid, we had carpet in our trailer so I was barefoot inside, at least.

Living with my grandmother when I was young (about three or four) in the country (Crewe, Virginia), it seemed to be common, even. She would even take me to the market and no shoes were necessary for me to even enter the store. It was like it was no big deal. I remember that so vividly. When moving up to Richmond, though, that changed. But I still walked barefoot as a kid outside in the summer...which kinda sucked because I used to run, play, etc., and constantly stub my big toe. >

caper1979 8 years 11 days ago Posts: 358	Although once in the 2nd grade for a month or so at the end of the year i wore sandals and the embarrassing part was i had nail polish on my big toe. I needed new shoes at the time so i had no choice. As for the nail polish i told everybody my brother did it and they actually believed me.

I can remember walking home from one of my first days of 7th grade when I was 12, and finally taking my shoes and socks off and shoving them in my book bag and walking about a mile home, barefoot, because I just couldn't stand wearing them any more. Now I wear shoes all the time, even in my house. My childhood callouses from walking around barefoot on hot blacktop and dried grass are all gone now, and I'm afriad I'll step on something on my sensative thin-skinned feet now. Like my son's hot wheel cars or something.

System 8 years 10 days ago Posts: 74809	water fights by the summer slip and slide and swimming pool places were really the only times and places i went barefoot. shoes wernt allowd in the house but, i always had socks and house shoes. its like im not comfortable without socks and boxers on.

pikachulover 8 years 10 days ago Posts: 2932	I went barefoot most of the time as a kid by choice. My feet are really hard on the bottom I can poke my heels with a needle and they will not bleed. I don't like wearing shoes I feel they are bad for your feet. Only wear shoes to drity places like school and walking on the streets.

Outsider 8 years 10 days ago Posts: 374	I always thought it was weird that people wore shoes in the house on tv. At everyones house I know you take your shoes off when you come in the door. Otherwise the floors and carpets would be filthy. I'm always barefoot or in socks in the house. I ran around outside barefoot sometimes as a kid in the summer. I remember how much it hurt to walk around on those gravol driveways or on really hot asphalt. If I was actually going out somewhere I always wore shoes though. And I definatly wore my boots in the winter!
