Let's think of some sillier fears.

King's Quest II scared the crap out of me when the witch showed up to capture you and cook you in her cave. Every once in a while she would show up in a corner of the screen and then disappear.... That was freaky. This was the Apple IIGS and it was scaring me enough that I would not play this game.

In Bubble Bobble, that final boss kinda freaked me out too.

Yes, I remember the head. Scary stuff.

I was also terrified of the giant spider at the bottom of the mountain in Mountain King -- but I was like five years old then and way too into the games.

Resident Evil 2. The first time i played it and a zombie snuck up on me, i literally dropped my controller. It took me a long time to beat it cuz i'd have to stop playing for a while and do something happy.......

The zombies in the water where the spider is scared me so badly.......

                Yay necrobumping.
This probably isn't considered retro, but Rayman 3 has a traumatic effect on me. Specifically the part with the zombie chickens there.
And had I played Ocarina of Time as a child, the Stalchilds may have done it.

Funny story.. it actually made my little brother cry lol.

Ok so I (like many others) pick Resident Evil for PS1. It was the first game that actually made me jump and almost drop the controller when those dogs came bursting through the window.

What's hilarious was back then my PS1 was hooked up to a really old crappy television.. the kind that had like a twist knob for volume and channels too I think. But yeh every once in awhile when I would be watching tv or playing a game, the volume would randomly turn up full blast for no apparent reason and my fix for it was turning the tv off and back on again.. So.. when I first rented this game I played like 15 mins of it then my little brother walked in my room and asked me what game I was playing.. I was like dude, check this game out it's really scary. So I reset the game so he could watch the intro.. and my tv decided to go max volume right at the part where the cerberus dogs were growling and chasing them through the field. I was like oh crap and I stood up real fast to turn off the tv and my brother just ran out of the room screaming and crying! LOL. Next thing I knew my mom was in my room yelling at me to not scare my brother like that and I was like "It wasn't me! It's my tv!" and she didn't believe me and told me if I did it again I was grounded. Good stuff..

I gotta say the first Silent Hill. I rented it when we had our PS1 hooked up to an old 20" TV in the basement and though it was daytime, I had the lights off and it freaked me out.

Also there were a couple PC games that got me as a kid. Blood (basically a Doom rip off) and Dark Seed (an indescribable puzzle game designed by H.R. Giger).

I think you're the only one who chose Resident Evil 1, while others picked 2 and 4.

I thought I saw two others.. besides the first post that started this thread.. eh oh well, I must have just worded it wrong, I was probably thinking Resident Evil in general because I saw the games mentioned a few times. That and Silent Hill.

Now that I look at this topic again.. I'm kind of thinking I misinterpreted it. I was thinking what was the game that got the biggest scare out of me.. which would be Resident Evil for the PS1 because I nearly dropped the controller when I jumped. But if it meant which game "scared" me the most the whole way through.. I would pick Silent Hill 2 on the PS2.. that game had me on the edge of my seat the entire game.. think it had something to do with that soundtrack where it had really loud ambient noises out of nowhere.. sounded like industrial machines or metal clanging.. enough to get my heart racing at some points.

What about you? Did any games do that for you?

The enemies from the Beast Wars: Transformers game. They were pretty damn morbid for something in a KA-rated game.
