Ooh, speaking of water, that's one thing that freaks me out. Or, for you English majors, water is one thing for which out I am freaked. Not just any water, mind you -- I have no problem taking a shower or drinking a nice glass of ice water with lunch. But submerging even the tiniest toe on my body into opaque water scares me. I haven't been able to swim at the lake since I was a little kid, and the thought of hanging my legs in the water while I fish scares the bejeesus out of me.
While it was the 90's, so not quite in Retro Land yet, and I wasn't really a kid by then, when Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire came out for the N64, it seemed very realistic at the time. So when I got to the sewer level, where you are forced to swim through green sewer water where you can't see more than a couple meters in any direction and there are monsters swimming around in there with you, that scared me as much as the first time a zombie jumped through a window to get me in another of our favorite games.
The eels in Super Mario 64 scared me, too.
