For me, it's the first Resident Evil, and the Silent Hill series. Silent Hill gave me the chills with them fetus looking monters with knives just ganged up on you, the darkness and rusty old school :x ugh, gave me the creeps.

Silent Hill was creepy. The game got boring as hell though.

        No question: Splatterhouse

That one scene in Level 4 where you are walking down the mirrored hallway and those clones jump out from the glass. When you're not expecting that, it can nearly give you a heart attack

When I was little, Castlevania II: Simon's Quest was the game that frightened me the most.

First time I played I thought, "okay, I'm safe in this town until I go out and fight monsters".

But then it said something like... "It's a terrible night to be alive" or something along those lines. I haven't played it in a long time. But anyways, the screen would go black, and all these green banshee creatures were everywhere!

I thought the music was really creepy too. Looking back, the musical score was pretty darn good for a nintendo game.

I wasn't keen on Blanka from Street fighter at first but I was only 6 when that came out.

Oh god yes them masks in SMB 2 were creepy as hell. I'm upset that I never thought to throw the key other step to avoid him, I learned to when I was like 12. :?

I might be on a different page than the rest of you, then again I heard a mention of Silent Hill so I think I'm safe (considering its not too terribly old). Half-Life used to scare the dickens out of me. Little headcrabs popping up in vents. Even though I learned to expect them, they could still startle me. Also the mod They Hunger. That was scary! I mean, you take all the early B-horror films about zombies and mash them together into a mod for Half-Life (again). Great part of They Hunger was when you reached the end of the game (or what turned out to be the first chapter out of three), you go the feeling you were safe, only to be knocked unconscious.

Damn that Resident Evil 2. It’s what got my brother and I into a zombie frenzy. I’m such a huge zombie fan now, because of that game and how it freaked me out with Zombie “busting”. I’ve always been spooked by sudden loud noises, but when a zombie busts through a door or window, there is a reason to be in fear.

another moment in videogames that scared me was in resident evil 2 where that licker creature jumps through the glass of the mirror/window in the police station. I was expecting something to jump out but it didn't right away even when i walked by it a couple of times. so I think I'm safe. then i picked up the item in the room. when I went to leave CRASH it jumped through! it scared me and my sister!

Doom II. One time I was staying with my dad, who lived in barracks on an Air Force base, and there was nothing to do so he booted up the old Pentium 1 and put Doom II on for me (had to start it through DOS... geez!).

I got so carried away playing the game that by the time I started to tire of it and was feeling a bit hungry, I turned away from the screen's radioactive light to notice that it had become pitch black night.

I didn't know the apartment very well, so I had to stumble around looking for dad to ask him what was up with dinner. He had fallen asleep on his bed doing paperwork, but you can imagine what that looked like to a kid with a hyperactive imagination who had just been playing a gory computer game for hours. I'm happy to report, though, that dad is still alive to this day... :D

Damn the Licker. That thing along with the Nemesis and their untimely jumping in was pretty scary.
