Why? I mean, there's nothing wrong with that, but animation is a medium, not a genre. It's an art form. It can be superficial entertainment, or it can be meaningful. It's been more than proven that it doesn't have to be for kids either. You can do anything at all with animation. Why limit it to just comedy and education?

most of the newer cartoons are kinda crappy but some are okay, although most batmans (old and new) never get old...

I loved Spongebob and Pok'emon but I do think those are what had a small influence on today's cartoons. They don't seem very original anymore. I mean there are TWO monkey shows on CN now (Camp Lazlo and My Gym Partner's a Monkey) and they both follow the Spongebob formula. Tom Kenny and Mr. Lawrence had such great unique voices on Rocko's Modern Life but after Spongebob they seemed to have gotten too used to their new voices cause Jake Spidermonkey sounds like Spongebob and Edward sounds like Plankton. I know they're doing the voices but what was always great about cartoons was when you couldn't tell it was them. As for Nick I wouldn't say that their new Nicktoons are too bad (I don't care much for Jimmy Neutron anymore but always thought Spongebob and Oddparents were funny) but they're on WAY too much since Nick lacks the kind of variety they used to have. I don't hate them, I just got tired of watching them all the time. But I really don't like any of the "newest" Nicktoons or the stuff that they put on Nicktoons Network. I'm not too keen on those old cartoons gone anime style either.

Anyone here watch "Drawn Together" on Comedy Central?

OH! OH! ME! ME! I DO!!!

I have seasons 1 and 2 on DVD. It's one of the funniest cartoons I've ever seen. It doesn't get the credit it deserves.

I hope to God it gets renewed for a 4th season.

Captain Hero, Spanky Ham, Wooldoor Sockbat and Toot Braunstien are the best housemates.

Why go out of your way just to make some animated characters fight all the time? People like you make it seem like action is the better form of animation and it's not. You should make whatever you want to make or paid to make. :D

In my opinion, newer cartoons can still be good

Some are good, some are horrible. Chowder and Foster's are some of the few cartoons that I still enjoy.

Shows like My Gym Partner's A Monkey and Out of Jimmy's Head (or as I've taken to calling it, "Out of Jimmy's Anus";) are just mind-blowingly terrible.

Edit: Oh we're talking about cartoons today AS A WHOLE. Whatever.

I like some such as Spongebob Squarepants esp since Tommy Kenny ( Spongebob ) was the voice of Heffer on Rocko's Modern Life. The Batman is alright not as good as The Legend Of The Dark Knight though. I liked The Fairly Odd Parents but sadly I believe that has been canceled. The Adult Swim Line Up is still pretty good as is The Family Guy , South Park and King Of The Hill. The Simpsons still has its moments as well as American Dad. I have liked what Ive seen of The Avatar. But seeing as I no longer have cable since its not available in my apt complex I cant really talk much about current cable shows. Only what Ive seen on The CW Network and from my friends house when their kids have Nickelodeon or The Cartoon Network on. Most of it is pretty lame. I dont even think I wouldve laughed at the stuff when I was a kid. As far as action shows the only one for kids Ive seen in the past couple of years more than once or twice is Avatar and Naruto. Avatars animation is pretty smooth thats all I can say about that show and with Naruto I dont care much for it. Maybe if I could get satelite in a few months I might have a more varied opinion on the matter. But with more channels and more options it doesnt seem likely that the writers and creators are trying as hard as they did back in the day. You know how it is the farther you stretch something the more likely it is to break. Thats whats happening with the writers and part of why I think there on strike. Too many writers now for too many programs and stations. Thats part of why I think the quality has been waning over the last ten years or so. But as I said there are still quite a few that keep me interested. On PBS I still love to watch Arthur and Curious George with my kids. Looking forward to the new Spiderman cartoon in March on The CW thought.

Well, I used to think that new cartoons sucked ass back in high school minus stuff like The Critic and The Simpsons. Then I saw Metalocalypse a few weeks back, such an awesome modern cartoon! I don't really care for the kids cartoons since I have pretty much outgrew them.
