the reason why u think todays actually is bad: becuz their made for todays kids
I agree with that. We can't get into them because they aren't aimed towards us, and let's be honest...some of the cartoons we watched was pretty awful or corny or cheesy. lol
I agree with these statements. But while we're on the subject of mentioning modern cartoons that we like/don't like, I'll throw my two cents in:

shows I like: Ed, Edd, n' Eddy (it doesn't air here anymore, is it still being made?), Johnny Bravo, 6Teen, Jimmy Neutron, Winx Club (I can't believe no one mentioned this show at all in this thread).
In an earlier post in this topic, I mentioned my not caring for Ed, Edd, n' Eddy since it seemed to be showeed much too often. Now, I like it. It's actually pretty funny, and as far as I know, it is still in production. I never cared for Johnny Bravo and I've never even heard of 6Teen or Winx Club. Jimmy Neutron's okay. I haven't seen it in the longest time, but maybe eventually, they'll stop dancing around the Jimmy x Cindy issue.

I used to be into anime, but I lost interest in it a few years ago. I just can't be bothered to keep up with it.
I guess I'm the same way here. Aside from Detective Conan subs and Naruto subs, I haven't gotten into anything new at all lately...unless Mahou Sensei Negima counts, but the anime totally butchered the manga so it isn't all that great. I prefer manga in general, so if anything, you should check out some manga series. If you like it enough, more than likely, you'll eventually check out its anime (if it has one). That's what I did with Mahou Sensei Negima...I can't wait until Gainax takes over and redoes it so that it follows the manga more.

I got into Detective Conan in the same way. I started off reading scanlations of its manga years ago, and found a way to watch its anime back in about 2002 or 2003, before it was dubbed and stuff.

Anywho, I'm clueless as to what's coming out now and stuff. Nothing's really grasped my interest yet, then again, I'm not looking for it. Now, as for manga series, I'll keep my eyes peeled to that. I highly suggest the series, Deathnote. I heard that it's supposed to get an anime soon too. If it does, I'd most definitely watch it since I'm enjoying the manga series immensely.

Edit: Oh, I forgot about Digimon Savers. I'm pretty much keeping up with that, mainly because I'm one of the editors for the WtW subbing group that's putting it out.

      How about you?

Why all the hate on the new TMNT? That cartoon has balls. And Ed, Edd 'N Eddy is awsome.

I don't get all the hate for Spongebob. When it came out, I thought it was stupid until I actually watched an episode. Now I think it's hilarious. Not all the episodes are good, of course.

As far as new "adult" stuff like Aqua Teens, I'm really into that.

However, the "kids" cartoons these days are TOO kiddy. I mean, you can't even say "die" or "kill". They make those two words out to be frigging curse words or something. Dying and killing is a part of life, better get used to it. >_<

Also, people shouldn't hate on anime so much. The crap you see on Saturday mornings isn't indicative of what good anime is. They hack those shows to pieces so American parents won't flip the fuck out. A lot of anime isn't meant for children, so of course it's not going to be educational. If you want your kid to watch something educational, turn on PBS.

I can't believe I'm going to ask this but here it goes....

Anyone here watch "Drawn Together" on Comedy Central?

But anyway yeah the new cartoon suck but think about this for a moment. When we were kids and watched Jem, Transformers, Gijoe, Ninja Turtles, etc. Our parents said the same thing were saying now. "Oh cartoons these days suck. Whatever happened to Mickey Mouse or Woody Woodpecker, Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, etc." It's just a different generation ya know.

Exactly how I'd put it. Then again, I'm a little more tolerable towards the new stuff anyway. :P

Yes, I am aware of Drawn Together. At the beginning of the second semester one of my Hot Topic Fanatic/Invader Zim junkie friends threw a party honoring his 15th birthday. There wasn't really anything to do, so me and a couple of girls went in the other room, popped in his Drawn Together DVD, and indulged ourselves in the show for the rest of the night there. I will never forget Pacman's mysterious secret revealed.

I stoped watching Cartoon network as soon as 2003 when Cartoon Cartoon Fridays was taken off and all of the good shows except for Ed Edd n Eddy. As for Nickolodeon after Invader Zim and The angry beavers (I think those were the last good shows) Were taken away I stoped watching nick.

Cartoon Network today is CRAP. When my son is born me and my husband are blocking it from the TV. It is all anime and really mindless stuff that has NO moral value. sorry to offend anyone... but that is how I feel. I am not really a nickelodeon fan anymore either... Spongebob really really irritates me. Geez, what will my kid watch then?? There are only so many retro DVD sets I can buy! lol

Ed, Edd, 'N Eddy's animation is rather creative to me. And I can't for my life figure out why you don't know what "The Batman" is.

I dunno, it might work out. The script for this movie has been 10 years in the making, and they've pulled together some of their most prolific writers for the job.

honestly i dont really like newer cartoons because they had diffrent influences than people who made cartoons in 90's (hard to believe right?!) but yeah. they think that things are funny i dont. but there is one new show i happen to be fond of. its called foster's or something. its has bloo in it. anyway. the creator of that show did PPG so he is pretty good and spongebob is funny from time to time (im not sure is its retro though?)

Cartoons today are boring. I haven't watch any TV at all since 2003. At least there are retro DVD releases so I won't have to worry about today's cartoons.

I think recent cartoons do infact suck pretty bad. Though I disagre about Ed, Edd n Eddy, it's one of my favorite shows to watch. I even mis some "recent" retro cartoons like Hey Arnold, that show was GREAT for kids, the perfect kid-pre teen show. I wish they'd bring it back or something. I loved cartoons about elementary-middle school(Doug, Pepper Ann, Hey Arnold, etc.)

As a child of the 80's, of course I think those cartoons are the best. I even enjoyed some of the 70's cartoons such as Josie and the Pussycats and Hong Kong Phooey. I do not like many newer cartoons except for the stuff on adult swim. Unfortunately I do not have access to boomerang and cannot watch the vintage cartoons. However sometimes tastes do change because I recently watched an episode of You can't do that on television, which was one of my favorite shows growing up and did not feel the same way I did as a child. Or maybe it was just a bad episode. I am eagerly awaiting Pee Wee's Playhouse, which is returning to CN soon to see if I feel the same way about that, also I want to see if I can pick up more on the double entendre. :!:

Actually, what i miss are the stand-alone plots. While i like anime, its admittedly hard to get into without seeing EVERY ep of a series. However, all the shows we grew up watching had plots where you could watch without having any prior knowledge of the show. Compare that to something like naruto where, if you get into the show at say, now, you're totally lost at who the characters are and what their motivation is.
