There is nothing to fix. Retro Junk currently uses over 30gigs of bandwidth every day and growing. To put this into perspective a standard hosting account gives you about 10gigs of transfer for an entire month. Revenue must be generated if Retro Junk is to exist.
I could eliminate pop-ups but something would have to take their place and honestly popups are one of the less intrusive types of advertising. They are capped at one per 24 hours so they will not be overly annoying.
The other type of advertising that could be used are those annoying ads that go across the screen and stop in the middle. I believe these are more annoying than popups.
Another type are ads between pages that make you wait a few seconds before you are directed to the link you clicked. These are used on sites like gamespot.com. Again I think this is more annoying than popups.
The bottom line is I cannot pay the bandwidth bill with hugs and kisses. Ads are annoying on TV and they are also annoying on the net. While I will try and do my best to select ads and ad types that are the least annoying they are bound to get on a few peoples nerves and I am sorry.
When I die, I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandpa did. Not like the screaming passengers in his car.
How about using targetted Google ads on the bottom/side of the intro pages themselves?
I seem to remember hearing that Google paid pretty good, and it would actually be beneficial for some people. Like having links to buy the Thundercats DVD on the same page as the Thundercats intro. Or just stick them on the main page for each show.
I wouldn't mind seeing some targetted ads there. How to buy videos and merchandise for the show I'm looking at and all that.
ask the numbskull who edited my post in the "retro king of the land club" thread
Oh yeah, the same thing happened with me when I posted in that thread. I see you took the same route that I did, too. That's probably their way of saying that the people who are not Retro King of the Land is not allowed.
But still, I wouldn't really make a big deal about bumping the status up to Retro King of the Land. At least, I'm in no rush to bump my status up, because to me... good things come to those who wait.
