Actually there were a few things that scared the life out of me as a kid. One of them was having to get off the high dive when I took swimming lessons.
Another was hurricane season in Hawaii. During the early days of December, we'd have horrible down pours and loud thunder with huge lightning bolts... It scared the life of me at night right until I was about nine or ten.
I remember watching an episode of Tales From the Crypt about a boy seeing a vantrilliquist live and wanted to be like him. Years went by in the story and the boy was an adult and started out as a failing vantrilliquist. Later, we find out that the vantrilliquist he saw as a child is now retired and has an awful secret: His dummy wasn't actually a dummy, it was his psychotic conjoined twin, which was conjoined (if I recall correctly) where his hand was supposed to be! ...THAT scared the life out of me and I couldn't sleep for that entire night.
Then when I was fourteen, my mom, brother and I were at a gas station and a trucker decided to play a trick on me. while I was with my mom, waiting for our car to get filled up, the trucker drives his rig toward me, and when I moved to avoid him, he turned toward me and stopped after that. I swear, I saw my life flash before my eyes and I was pale for two, maybe three hours.
