Has anyone ever blown into an NES cartridge and got it to whistle?

I had a friend I would always employ as the cartridge cleaner because he could always get this super loud whistle when he blew (which I figured was the best because hell... I was a kid). It's too bad I could never do it though. I always just used the method of putting it under my t-shirt and blowing through the fabric... probably the worst method i.e. moisture. Haha.

my cousin blows into his nes games and they whistle. I have never been able to do it. The whistle is a piercing one too. He would take a deep breath and blow is lungs out in the middle of the cartridge, very quick too. For gags, my brother would blow into a cartridge and make a fake whistle after.

kind of off topic but I remember when I couldn't get a game to work, kept on blowing into the cartridge to try to get it to work, my cousin would say "give it here" and would do the magical whistle. The game worked first whack. It really does the trick.

Blowing in them can eventually destroy your games, however.

The best thing you can do is to replace the connector in the console and keep the games clean. I haven't heard of getting the games to make a whistle sound, but then again, I try not to blow in the games.

No, I'm just saying it can destroy the games. A lot of people don't know that, and a lot of people who still have cartridge-based game systems still blow in them even now.

I still blow in them, but usually I use the cleaner.

its funny that an act like blowing into cartridges can be pop culture. I know I saw one Internet production logo had a blinking sceen, the blowing sound and then the movie would start. When the retro revolution started I made some good money on the side fixing old nintendos. Now everyone knows how to do it. :(

So I guess putting a cloth or shirt over your mouth before blowing doesn't help eh..

oh well. Now that I got rid of my SNES, NES, and don't play my gameboys as much, there's no more need to blow into my cards.

Not unless there's a machine in your shirt to extract the moisture. That would be a very special shirt.

Buy a new pin connector on ebay. the new ones never rust and almost always get your games to work. once you get one of those make sure you never put a dirty nes game in it. Always clean them before with a q tip.

if you open your nes, make sure you take out that big metal thing, it's worthless and if you ever plan on buying a game saver to save your games, you would have to take this piece out anyway.

here's another method to get your nes games to work:

when you insert a game into the system and you get the blinking screen but you see the game starting while blinking, here's what you do:

hold the game down while it is in the nes (kind of like if you are going to take the game out), then put another nes game on top of it. reset it and you will see the the blinking has stopped and the game is playing.

Top loading nintendos are no good in my opinion because of those stupid verticle lines and it doesn't work with 3rd party accessories like the game saver or game genie (unless you have that rare connector piece). Also , there are no av connectors.

I have never tried those bootleg nintendos on ebay but those are probably the better alternative nes systems

maybe, but I can get almost any cartridge game to work doing it. If you think the game doesn';t work, some people are so weird and just throw the game out. My friend had a game that he could never get to work, I blew in it and then it worked after months of not working...

You mean those pirate things which look like N64 controllers (orsmth) and have NOAC (NES On A Chip) ?

Ben Heck takes those things and makes them into working NES'es. it's cool. :D

                                    Also, @ Isoproprebyal (whatever) alcohol:

                                    what no

isn't there a warning on the back of NES cards which say not to use alcohol ?

The clerk at the game store told me to use alcohol to clean my cartridges. He also told me that I can use a pencil eraser but, I forgot how to procced for that one.

Alcohol is for when you are playing the games. Helps take the edge off against going up against Bowser.
