Sure the console will be over-priced when it comes out but this isn't the same as with previous "high-end" consoles like the 3DO or even the Neo-Geo far as the US and Europe are concerned. The Playstation has already build a reputation and it is coming on top of past victories. Everyone console is rather over-priced when it comes out, but I guess what sucks about the PS3 price tag is that Sony is really just trying to make up for a lost year of earnings. The console was meant to come out at the beginning of this year and perhaps if that had been the case the price would not be so extravagant. At the moment the Wii still has my vote of confidence because of the new generation consoles, it seems like the most innovative while the 360 and PS3 are kinda doing the same ol just with better graphics, which is not to say it's bad but it really comes down to gameplay. If gameplay is what sets these consoles apart from eachother and from PC games then I would rather first try out the Wii. I am sure the PS3 will go down in price, I mean the 360 has gradually been dropping too and it was pretty pricey at its release date but it will take a while. For that matter rather than buying a PS3, if it's graphics I'm after then I could get a better computer and play even better looking games on the PC. Right now the PS3 price-tag is reminiscent of a MAC , or I should say one of those older MACs that couldn't play games, had limited software and were way overpriced more about as much as top of the line PC.

flamepanther 8 years 3 months ago Posts: 948	I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Making games for other console is not what's wrong with Sega right now. Sega has made games for non-Sega systems during almost every period of their time as a games developer. The hardware has never been what made the games good (in fact, it's held them back on a few occasions). Their problem is that they've been through a long period of financial strain and an even longer period of internal political strife (since at least the early 1990s), have been puchased by and merged with another game company, and have had all of their classic development teams restructured or dissolved. The man behind the old Sonic games is gone. AM2 has been deprived of their head honcho as well. This is a lot of drastic change that can't be undone. The heart of the company has fallen apart from the inside. It doesn't exist anymore. As with SNK Playmore, the only way for Sega Sammy to live up to the history of the old Sega is to re-learn what made the old games great and try to regain that spirit. Trying to push their own console hardware at this point would only take money and attantion away from games development. Until the current Sega learns on its own what made the old Sega great, no online petition could ever bring them back. even if any company ever paid attention to online petitions which they don't.

I WANT THE SEGA I KNOW AND LOVE BACK! Seems like it was pretty much a choice of Sega Sammy or no Sega at all. Sega was in very bad financial trouble, mostly due to bad sales of its hardware. That's why they quit making it. The hardware was killing them. I don't like some of the decisions that Sega Sammy has made regarding the old Sega game development teams, but on the other hand Sammy has been making better games than Sega for awhile (Guilty Gear series, Hokuto no Ken, etc.) Things could have been much worse without the merger. Splitting at this point wouldn't bring the old Sega back. Nothing can. You'd just have an even more crippled Sega without any financial support to keep them alive.

System 8 years 3 months ago Posts: 74809	Sega did the smart thing and quit the console business and went into becoming a third party company. Although they had great gaming success in the past like Sonic, Gundstar Heros, etc. when it came to more advance console systems , Dreamcast couldn't cut it. Besides a few ports like Shenmue, Sonic and Street fighter three there were no other games that could justify someone spending about $200 (when it first released) on one. So sega shoud just countinue to release there Sonic games and veriations of them on PS2 or gamecube every year until they go away for good.

There Dreamcast's memory card was removable handheld mini gaming system which was able the download and play basic games. That was a cool function, but after about a couple of months the battery would die or the darn thing would malfunction. But the negatives far outweigh the positives when it comes the Sega manufacturing hardware.

System 8 years 3 months ago Posts: 74809	I hate Sony with all my heart, because they crushed Sony, but the tables might turn if PS3 goes the way of the Dreamcast(which is a good possibility with all the info they've shown us about the PS3)And I wan't to see rareware come back too, but that's impossible since everyone owns a piece of rareware. But for now(and always) I'm a Nintendo Fanboy.

This is probably not far from the truth. Sony has become the dominant power in the game industry, but they still don't understand games. All they see is that they've had two dominant consoles in a row, they beat out previous industry leader Nintendo, killed Sega, and even Microsoft hasn't come near them. At this point, it must look to them like they're invincible and can do whatever they want. It's like in Akira, when they say that if you gave the power and technology of humans to an amoeba, the results would be disasterous because the amoeba has no understanding.
