    My cable company during their early years didn't bother inserting local ads into those places where the tones showed up, so I used to watch the channel all the way through until the mid 80's or so when the local ads crepted in. It wasn't the same since!

        It was at the end of a lot of commercials back then. I always wondered why they did it then but not now.
