I used to have the Spell one.

I remember having those. Batteries were always dying on it! I think I may still have it... doubt it stills works though.

you think the voice with fresh batteries was bad, ever hear it when the batteries were dying?

This thing sounds like the computer in War Games.

I remember people used to take these things and make it repeat dirty words.

I listen to all kinds of computer voices being blind and all, and I remember having one of these. I had two units actually. One with the standard button keypad, and the other with a Braille keypad. That green display I thought was the coolest. Interestingly enough the "say-it" game didn't do me much good until the unit read the word. On another note, many ham radio repeaters use this same synthesized voice to identify themselves, and for announcing mode changes and other information about repeaters in both the man's voice and a female voice.

I had a love/hate relationship with my speak and spell. I loved it because it was a learning toy that was pretty cool..I hated it because the electric voice sounded very annoying...I believed it was Satan as kid. -_- (has a weird imagination)

Boy Bill Cosby can make any educational thing look fun. but buy all these posts i bet it was fun. but of corse now the they have all that stuff on the internet. DAMN BILL GATES!!!

I had one of these too! I loved spelling out words and playing the little games that were with this thing! Until the system eventually started making wierd noises and died. I will never forget the Speak and Spell.
