What the heck was the point of this ad? I mean yeah the song was a little catchy but it was just rather pointless. I wonder what they were thinking when they made it.

BTW What I meant by "but alas this vignette is all but lost in the shuffle of this day and age where they just don't care about little pieces of Canadiana like this" is that they'll air NFB shorts like this for only a short time before they just stop caring about our country's history.
We shouldn't ever forget about where we come from. I know that I won't forget as I'm sure none of you forget. Heaven for fend we should be proud of our country's heritage but without little pieces of Canadiana like this there's not much point in forgetting about stuff like this.

Oh shoot! That should say "Now I've had my chances with all sorts of men

Thanks for uploading it. :) This takes me back to when I was 3. :)

If you should ask any girl
    from the parrish around
    "what pleases her most
from her head to her toes?"?

    She'll say "I'm not sure
    that it's business of yours
but I do like to waltz with
    a log driver"

    For he goes birling down
    a down a white water
    that's where the log driver
    learns to step lightly
    For he goes birling down
    a down a white water
    A log driver's waltz
    pleases girls completely

    When the drive's nearly over
I like to go down and watch
all the lads as they work
    on the river
    I know that come evening
    they'll be in the town
and we all like to waltz
    with the log driver

    For he goes birling down
    a down white water
    that's where the log driver
    learns to step lightly
    He goes birling down
    a down white water
    a log driver's waltz
    pleases girls completely

    To please both my parents
    I've had to give way
    and dance with the doctors
    and merchants and lawyers
    Their manners are fine
but their feet are of clay
But there's none with the style
    of my log driver

    For he goes birling down
    a down white water
    that's where the log driver
    learns to step lightly
    He goes birling down
    a down white water
    a log driver's waltz
    pleases girls completely

    Now I've had my chances
    with all sorts of me
    but none is so fine
as my lad on the river
    so when the drive's over
    if he'll ask me again
    I think I will marry
    my log driver.

    For he goes birling down
    a down white water
    that's where the log driver
    learns to step lightly.
    He goes birling down
    a down white water
    a log driver's waltz
    pleases girls completely

    He goes birling down
    a down white water
    a log driver's waltz
    pleases girls completely

I feel proud to be a Canadian citizen, even though at times I wonder about our governing powers, and if I should happen to have any kids I want them to be proud to be Canadian citizens too.

You might have wanted to put this in the 'other' section for the 70s. Thanks for posting anyways :D

This is a animated short that was made in 1979 by the National Film Board Of Canada. It was pretty popular has been shown through out the years. I uploaded this to the Commercial section since it didn't fit anywhere else and is in reponse to an article that was posted
