    Fyne T(oo)ning--
Metromedia's primary owned and operated stations were WNEW in New York (Now WNYW), WFLD in Chicago (from 1979 until 1986), WTTG in Washington, DC, KTTV in Los Angeles (All of which became Fox O&Os), WTCN in Minneapolis-St. Paul (A Metromedia O&O from 1971 until 1979 when Gannett bought the station and it became an NBC affiliate and later became WUSA in 1985, then KARE in 1986), and KDFW in Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas (This station remained an independent station until late 1994-early 1995, when Tribune, who I believe has owned the station since the early 1980s, made it a WB affiliate, which it kept until the WB-UPN merger in 2006, making it a CW affilate, which it has been ever since). However, to answer your primary question, all Metromedia owned and operated stations (O&Os) were independents until the afore-mentioned years.

RIGHT ON bassmanfrm!! Thanks also Fyne for expanding my TV horizons cuz had no idea MM was a syndicated group.

I believe the KTTV one aired as early as 1968-1969. In fact, as a weird little 3 yr. old growing up in Los Angeles around this time, the KTTV version would scare the living $#@% outta me due to its haunting "eleven...eleven...eleven."

All I knew was that when the "I Love Lucy" DESILU logo came on at the end, that meant I had mere seconds to bolt before the scary KTTV/Metromedia "eleven...eleven...eleven" ID would come on and be seared in my brain---NOT A GOOD THING when time for bed.

Now that I'm 40 and no longer afraid of it (having just tested myself by playing the above WCTN version) anyone have the KTTV ID?

SOOO glad I'm not the only TV-freak out there!!!! THANKS for contributing the clips!!! Have been on massive search for the Metro Media logo...never thought I'd see it again! I am whole again!

The Los Angeles affiliate was KTTV.

You know, MetroMedia technically wasn't a network in the familiar sense, much the same way the former UPN network was. It was more like a nationwide sydicate group. In the 70's, it only consisted of six affiliates. I recall that the markets they served were New York (WNEW), Los Angeles (KTLA?), Minneapolis (as seen above), and, I believe, Memphis and Seattle. Can't remember where the last one was, but it sure wasn't Chicago (or maybe I'm wrong; feel free to correct me).
