Yep, Spiritof76 has it exactly right. I remember seeing the Cyborg paperbacks in racks at 7-11s and Greyhound stations prior to the pilot(s). These shows were the buzz of the junior high blacktop! Top Ten pop hits, 1973:
1 TIE A YELLOW RIBBON ROUND THE OLE OAK TREE – Tony Orlando & Dawn (Bell)
2 BAD, BAD LEROY BROWN – Jim Croce (ABC)
3 DELTA DAWN – Helen Reddy (Capitol)
4 CROCODILE ROCK – Elton John (MCA)
5 TOUCH ME IN THE MORNING – Diana Ross (Motown)
6 MY LOVE – Paul McCartney & Wings (Apple)
7 YOU’RE SO VAIN – Carly Simon (Elektra)
8 PLAYGROUND IN MY MIND – Clint Holmes (Epic)
9 ME AND MRS. JONES – Billy Paul (Philadelphia Int’l)
10 SHAMBALA – Three Dog Night (Dunhill)
Cyborg was the subtitle of the first TV movie (there were three). It was also the title of Martin Caidin's Steve Austin novels, upon which the series was based.
I don't remember this particular commercial or it being referred to as Cyborg but I do remember the show. It came on sunday nights or was that battlestar galactica?
