Out of all the 90's PSAs, this is the one that really stuck with me.

    Ew.....

Effective it is. That's why I love this stuff. You just don't see good PSAs these days.
AntoineSchwartz Posted 4 years 6 months ago
One of my favorites of the CCA PSAs, really effective.
acparson Posted 4 years 7 months ago
These are appropriately creepy. And even though there wasn't an exact match to this commercial stateside, that's always been on reason I've never done drugs. (Nicotine via cigarettes doesn't count) Namely, I don't know what somebody put into it.

Try watching this commercial alone in a dark room on a big-screen TV. Scary. The CCA (Concerned Children's Advertisers), partnered with Health Canada, had four other commercials that were similar in style to this one. They were called "No Label On Drugs", "Elevator", "Interaction", and "Cocaine". All I could find of these rare four are their telecaster numbers. This commercial ("Syringe";) and those other four were made back in 1990 and were shown throughout the early 90's on Canadian television channels, especially YTV, until around 1996.

^ Well, yeah. The rat in the PSA probably pissed or shat in the water that the syringe sucked up. And plus, rats harbor diseases like e. coli, hepatitis, tuberculosis and other things like that.
ThaMasterHand Posted 7 years 1 month ago
Uh, I don't get it, the rats will do something to us?
    cheshirecat1582 Posted 7 years 2 months ago
Ok whats with the rat... i mean really? a rat? I dont get it... I mean I guess it gets the point across that needles are dirty but really what little kid in there right minds are going to use a needle to do drugs... lol i think that more of an adult thing... you cant even give them shots... these commercials are aimed toward children arnt they? I mean good commercials to have around... at least someones telling kids not to do drugs... instead of hearing it from there drug addicted parents... popping pills for depression and what not... i think they stopped these commercials because either 1. the government is too cheap. Or 2. we are a generation that is growing up on drugs... and dont see anything wrong with it.

I think the rat in this commercial has something to do with hallucinations that dying people see. *shudder*
Heralde Posted 7 years 3 months ago
Yeah they should do more PSAs. Even if they weren't as successful as they'd hoped, they gave the impression our society cared. Now TV and society look much more bleak.
DrivingReport Posted 7 years 3 months ago
    wow! That's just scary!
Celeste Posted 7 years 5 months ago
crazycookies it wouldn't matter if you used a plastic or a glass syringe you can still get hepatits and HIV from sharing needles and then there's the issue about what to do with the syringe point once you're through with it? Most druggie people are so high that they don't really care where they throw the syringes or who picks them up.

We like, don't have PSA's anymore. I guess we've given up on humanity.
    sweet90schild Posted 7 years 6 months ago
    WOW! Canada's PSAs ROCK!
crazycookies Posted 7 years 8 months ago
See thats why you use a plastic syringe, problem solved

    I vaguely remember this commercial
I wonder why there's not a single reference to it on the Concerned Children's Advertisers website.
