MTV ID - Moon Landing (1980)

Quite possibly MTV's most famous bumper right here.

Am I right in thinking that when this aired when the channel first launched (as in, before the first-ever video was played), the astronaut said something like "Houston, we have rock and roll."

I'm not actually old enough to remember that...heck, I wasn't even born. But MTV used to show many retrospectives of their past, which I always enjoyed.

It's MTV's 25th Birthday at midnight on August 1, 2006.

LOL, my mom was just telling me about how I was watching MTV before I knew I was watching MTV. She told me about being pregnant with me, and that she would sit up late at night, and watch Michael Jackson and Duran Duran videos all night long.

Holy Cow, did someone actually tape this when MTV first debuted twenty five years ago?
