I do remember this, and i was born in '84...

I think that this is the "P" logo turned backwards...

Curious if that is what it is... : I

This split head ID went from 1984-1989. That's when PBS had that glass ident.

PBS always seemed like the "mature" channel with logos like that, lol.
    retroguy78 Posted 7 years 8 months ago
This PBS Bumper is more pleasant-sounding than the one from the 70s.

Since I never saw this on TV, I don't remember this too much. The music makes me think of computers for some... reason.

There was an episode of Square One TV that featured this logo form a line of infinite PBS logos after this logo was done & than the song "And on.. and on.. and on.." would play.
KRW Posted 8 years 2 months ago
I think this is neat but I like the "glass face" ident better.

P.S. Can someone please upload that ident? It'll be really nice if it were on RetroJunk.

I used to wake up early in the morning to see Newton's Apple on my local PBS station. This logo followed every single show until around 1990, when the glass ident replaced this one. I was lucky enough to see this logo on an educational program on that station as recent as 2 years ago!

Everytime every kid show goes off, they always have that logo which was cool.
ThreeTimesOneMinusOne Posted 8 years 8 months ago
I always thought PBS had one of the coolest logos and those older station ID's were always awesome.
abcpbs Posted 8 years 8 months ago
Square one tv episode 101 used this logo then comes the song, " and on, and on, and on....."
Celeste Posted 8 years 8 months ago
I liked the logo in which people's faces were flashed in the logo and a guy saying "this is PBS." That one was and still is my favourite PBS logo.

The "glass face" ident from 1989 is my favorite out of all of them.
CheezNapkin Posted 8 years 8 months ago
Me neither, but it looks kinda creepy the way his head just splits in two.
    girlbornin1983 Posted 8 years 8 months ago
The PBS logo never scared me.
    kimsy520 Posted 8 years 8 months ago
I loved this one :) And the earlier one from the 70s. The ones after this were too boring.
MrMatt Posted 8 years 9 months ago
OMG! You guys saying how scary all things PBS really makes me laugh! No offense. As a kid, PBS made feel uneasy. Long story.
Celeste Posted 8 years 9 months ago
In fact every single PBS logo that ran from 1971 up until 1992 used to always scare the shit out of me.
CheezNapkin Posted 8 years 9 months ago
Yeah, I can understand someone getting scared by that.
Celeste Posted 8 years 9 months ago
Yes it is. The music is much quieter than the one from the 70s but that wasn't what scared me at the time. It was the head splitting into 3 parts is what scared me more than anything else. I was only 8 when this spot first started to go to air and even now it still gives me the willies.
    mr3urious Posted 8 years 9 months ago
Compared to the one from the 70's, this one is much tamer.
Celeste Posted 8 years 9 months ago
Yes I remember this quite well. It used to give me the willies.
