I loved that song too, i used to pretend to be an astronaut when that song came on when i was young. :)
    blackphoenix77 Posted 2 years 5 months ago
oh my god i remember that!!! I loved that song. Too bad HBO dont use it anymore...
brostraid Posted 2 years 7 months ago

Nightshade Posted 3 years 6 months ago
I remember this when I watch one of my mom's old video tapes, it shwed this following with "Sleepaway Camp 2".
realestateross Posted 4 years 3 months ago
Without question one of the finest examples of non-cgi film introduction, that totally takes me back to Friday nights at 7 pm circa 1986. I can almost smell the Jiffy-Pop.
    SteveMcQueen36 Posted 4 years 11 months ago
    Now i wanna watch Robocop
kellyilla Posted 5 years 2 months ago
    I remember this as well.
    Blueroc85 Posted 5 years 6 months ago
I thought this was toatally awesome as a kid! We were lucky enough to have cable TV in he 80's, and I saw this often. HBO played it before their new movie featued every friday at 7:00pm.
HOMR Posted 5 years 6 months ago
I miss this one so much, I just wish that they would make a new version
    OpenArms81 Posted 5 years 6 months ago
    HBO's Best Intro,no question.
    bklyn80s Posted 5 years 7 months ago
    Bravo! Bravo!
    bklyn80s Posted 5 years 7 months ago
Thats odd? not sure why I remember this one. Its not like I had the luxury of cable in the 80s. But what a moving theme i must say.
    douro20 Posted 5 years 8 months ago
It took a very long time to shoot this. The company who did it had to build the largest miniature city ever created.
    80skidAK Posted 5 years 10 months ago
I don't know which is the more exciting movie intro- this, or the "star tunnel" for the ABC Sunday Night Movie...
    99Centsplease Posted 6 years 1 month ago
The intro they use on movies now just barely compares to this. Both are state-of-the-art. You see that city bus at the beginning of this one? They have that bus in the current one. Except it gets half the screen time. Still, HBO in Space is COOL!

    Best.HBO intro.Ever.
diskoboy Posted 6 years 4 months ago
Anyone that had cable in the 80's has to remember this. Absolute classic!! I even remember HBO actually ran a special showing how this whole segment was made.
    Auspex420 Posted 6 years 6 months ago
Wow..That was such a hot intro..Man..Memories.This whole site is amazing.
    stephanie2007 Posted 6 years 6 months ago
always thought this was so freaking COOL!
    blackphoenix77 Posted 6 years 9 months ago
    OH GOD...

I just got a little choked up.

Wish HBO still used that. It was the coolest ever!
    j96g Posted 6 years 9 months ago
MEMORIES!MEMORIES! i remember that before the movies and so much better than what they do now. I think they still use like 3 seconds of that song when premiering movies.
OlSchoolNickRules Posted 6 years 10 months ago
Now that is how you make a bumper. These days, most channels just use cheap 10-second CGI clips. A lot of work must have been put into this one.
ooliyo Posted 6 years 10 months ago
Looks like mister rogers neighborhood gone intergalactic!!
ooliyo Posted 6 years 10 months ago
this promo lasted until 1993, it was around for as long as I could remember! I used to think the modled cities and towns were real
shiroihikari Posted 6 years 11 months ago
This thing is so cool. They should still use it!
Tom Cloudkicker Posted 7 years 13 days ago
    Very cool graphics...and awesome music.

Home Box Office must've been very proud about this!
    drfulmore06 Posted 7 years 1 month ago
I remember this used to come on around 8 whenever their featuring a movie. I wish this was still on HBO nowadays.
    girlbornin1983 Posted 7 years 2 months ago
Cool! I have this bumper on one of my old video cassettes.
    Simpfan83 Posted 7 years 3 months ago
Ah yes, when it was movie time on HBO, that appeared.
    ~Thunderkitten~ Posted 7 years 3 months ago
I thought this was the coolest thing ever, lmao. I used to sit and watch HBO between movies just so I could see it. The whole "flying through the city then being blasted into space" effect amazed me back then. :)
    kimsy520 Posted 7 years 3 months ago
Hahaha I remember this :P I always thought it was weird! ^I can tell the animation looked a little off.
mastamark Posted 7 years 4 months ago
Oh yeah. I remember this one. It used to always remind me of Rocky for some reason.
    robmon300 Posted 7 years 4 months ago
