Top 5 best Mario games.

These would be my most favorite games of all time.

Hello RetroJunk fans! Today I am going to talk to you about my top 5 most favorite Mario games. Some of you may know me as a Mario fanatic because Mario is one of my most favorite Nintendo characters ever. Before I start, I will let you know that this is my first article and this information was all done by my own knowledge so let me know how I did with the article. Now it is time to start my top 5 most favorite Mario games and they are

5. Mario Party 3

This was the third and last Mario Party game to be released on the Nintendo 64. The purpose of this game is to pick four of your favorite characters and then you get to choose a board game to play on. When all of the characters had made their turn, a mini game is randomly selected to see who will win. Whoever won will get ten extra coins. If you make twenty or more coins, you will get a star. Whoever has collected the most stars wins the game.

4. Super Mario World

Unfortunately, this would be another game where Princess Peach is kidnapped…again! If you are player one, you get to play as Mario. If you are player two, you get to play as Luigi. The purpose of this game is to clear all of the worlds and beat Bowser and his seven koopa kids: Morton, Wendy, Lemmy, Larry, Iggy, Roy, and Ludwig. This is also the game where Yoshi makes his first appearance.

3. Super Mario Bros. 3

The seven koopa kids have stolen the rods from the kings and turned them into animals! And later in the game Princess Peach is kidnapped by Bowser once again. The purpose of this game is to clear all of the worlds and get the rods back from the koopa kids and turn the kings back to normal. The best thing about this game is that it features cool looking costumes such as the frog suit, tanooki suit, and the hammer suit.

2. Super Mario Bros.

This is the game that started the search to rescue Princess Peach from the evil koopa king known as Bowser. The purpose of this game is to clear four levels in each of the eight worlds in order to defeat Bowser and save Princess Peach. This is the game where Mario got this fireball power and also the debut of Princess Peach, Bowser, and Toad. Did you know that Toad was known as a Mushroom Retainer in Super Mario Bros.? You will see that in the original Super Mario Bros. Instruction booklet.

And finally, my number one favorite Mario game is

1. Super Mario 64

In my opinion, I think that Super Mario 64 is one of the best Mario games ever because it was the first game where Mario got to experience a 3D world. The purpose of this game is to clear six levels, including the 100-coin star, in fifteen worlds and the fifteen secret stars in order to defeat Bowser and save Princess Peach once again! You will need at least 70 stars to beat Bowser and the highest amount of stars in the game is 120 stars. You have to admit that it is pretty funny when Mario catches himself on fire! LOL!

This concludes my top 5 favorite Mario games. I will hope to write another article soon! Bye!

Saltychuck Posted 4 years 9 months ago
For me, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is forever my favorite. It awesome, and it has great history. You can see the bond that square soft (now square enix) and nintendo once had.

    SMB 3 is tops.
darthmunk Posted 4 years 9 months ago
Well, since Mario Galaxy is the number one game of all time now (officially) that should be number one... but my top 5 would go like this:

    5. Super Mario 64
    4. Super Mario Bros.
    3. Mario Kart 64
    2. Super Mario World
    1. Super Mario Bros. 3

To whoever said Super Mario 64 was the first time Peach was first called Peach-you're dead wrong. She was first reffered to as such in North America in the unknown game Yoshi's Safari. People incorrectly state 64 because it was more well known (probably because the Super Scope didn't do well). Shame, because its a fun, hidden gem (haha) of a game if you can find it.

I don't really agree with this list. Too short, and Mario 64 and Mario Party 3 would definitly not be here. I probably wouldn't include Super Mario World either.

And to whoever said about bringing back the Koopalings. Well...there's always Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga. They're fightable bosses near the end of the game. You need to fight all of them in order to get to the second to last boss, actually.

You should add when which game came out, like the order or this one before that. Nice article MARIO klassic.
    Ken80 Posted 4 years 9 months ago
I would agree with the top 4 but I would replace Mario Kart 64 with Mario Party 3, just my opinion. Mario Bros. 2 wasn't too bad either...
    futuramafan95 Posted 4 years 9 months ago
yoshi is simply the best game ever
    cpd2007 Posted 4 years 9 months ago
My #1 favorite Mario game is "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island". Sure it has Yoshi in the spotlight, but the gameplay and graphics are just awesome.

Oldschoolgamer83 said: "I wish they'd bring back the Koopa Kids. Bowser Jr. is just not as cool."

I know what you mean. What's the deal with Bowser Jr? He's basically just baby Bowser from Yoshi's Island, only now he's Bowser's son instead of Bowser himself at a young age. Nintendo just threw the original koopa kids out the window without any explanation, and gave Bowser one kid instead of seven. I'd much rather have the seven unique kids, each with their own looks and personality, than one "Mini-Me" Bowser that you have to fight over and over again. I remember Nintendo said there would be "Koopa Kids" in New Super Mario Bros. for the DS, in a Q&A about the game before it's release...but it just turned out to be Bowser Jr, who you had to fight like 10 - 15 times throughout that game (Still an excellent game though).

im pretty sure super mario world is the best of them all and always will be
    mlw1984 Posted 4 years 9 months ago
And Super Mario 64! How could I forget that?!
    mlw1984 Posted 4 years 9 months ago
Super Mario RPG and SMB 3 hands down are the best Mario games IMO, then followed Super Mario World, Super Mario Bros 1 and Super Mario Galaxy (but that's not retro).
    StarSprinkles84 Posted 4 years 9 months ago
I don't necessarily agree with your choices, but this was a good, short article with pics :) Nicely done =)
codylambert Posted 4 years 9 months ago
I definitely would have put RPG in there, but they are mostly all good and it is really hard to say which ones are better, they're just all excellent.
    futuramafan95 Posted 4 years 9 months ago
galaxy was good but far from best, arianit
    Oldschoolgamer83 Posted 4 years 9 months ago
Nice article, although I think I wouldn't had Super Mario Galaxy in there somewhere.

My top five favorite Mario games:
    1. Super Mario World
    2. Super Mario Galaxy
    3. Super Mario Bros. 3
    4. Super Mario 64
    5. Super Mario Bros. 1

I wish they'd bring back the Koopa Kids. Bowser Jr. is just not as cool.

    fit_n_fun Posted 4 years 9 months ago
Nice article; your top picks are virtually identical to mine!
    guineapig64 Posted 4 years 9 months ago
I agree with you Hoju Koolander. I should have put in some personal memories of the games. I didn't think about it when I made this article.
retromaniac Posted 4 years 9 months ago
Keown, the princess has always been called Peach in Japan, and over here in North America, she was called Toadstool until Mario 64. Than Nintendo decided to drop the Toadstool name, and just call her by her original Japanese name.

As for this list, I really would have Mario Galaxy up there. It's one of the greatest platformers ever made in my opinion. I rank it right up there next to Super Mario Bros 3.
keown Posted 4 years 9 months ago
When did Princess Toadstool become Princess Peach? I know the Princess was called Toadstool in Mario 1,2,3, and Mario World, but those are also the only Mario games I am familiar with since I haven't played any of the newer (N64 or later) Mario games. I'm sure the character was even called Princess Toadstool on the Super Mario Bros. Super Show (I'm pretty sure, anyway). If anyone knows when Princess Peach came along, or if Nintendo just changed the name of the character to make it more palatable (ha-ha), please let me know. By the way, great article. Super Mario Bros is still, by far, the most fun game I have ever played. I still play it on my NES to this day.

I've been playing mario since 1985. I still love playing mario games. I play the old nintendo system games on the Wii. Also you can play it on your computer as well. Especially with Mario Party 3. Mario you rock!
Hoju Koolander Posted 4 years 9 months ago
A very well written first article. It was nice to get those little descriptions, since we often take Mario games for granted. It's kind of funny to step back and listen to the actual purpose/plot of the games. One thing that could have made the article even better is if you had thrown in some personal memories of the games, like when/how you got the games or a time you played against Grandma, something like that. Great article though.

I personally never found the fascination with Mario 64 it was just blah to me. On the other hand Mario Party games have always been a treat, and Super Mario World was one of those games I played multiple times. I'd take 64 off that list and replace it with Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island for SNES as #1 I can't even keep track of how many times I played that thing.
    Score:
    29
