Flash Gordon Returns!

A quick look into Sci Fi's new remake of Flash Gordon debuting August 10 @ 9pm ET/PT on SCI FI

Placing a 21st century spin on a science fiction classic, SCI FI’s contemporized version of Flash Gordon follows the all-new adventures of Flash (Eric Johnson) and his companions, Dale Arden (Gina Holden) and Dr. Hans Zarkov (Jody Racicot). Ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances, they find themselves as Earth’s last line of defense against the forces of the merciless dictator Ming (John Ralston).

Flash Gordon

Steven Gordon got the nickname "Flash” Gordon (Eric Johnson) because he was always fast on his feet. Flash’s scientist father dies in a laboratory fire when Flash was 13. Since then, Flash has dedicated all his track victories to his father's memory -- including his third, unprecedented, Tri-City Marathon win.

Flash thinks he's got his life on track, looking after his mother's house while she travels, rebuilding classic cars in partnership with his pal Nick Gilmore (Panou). He doesn't know that something's coming that will force him to re-examine everything he thought he knew about his father's death -- and threaten to destroy the universe itself.

Ming the Merciless

Family obligations kept Flash at home while his old flame Dale Arden left for college. Now Dale is a reporter for hometown television station WIAD-TV and engaged to another man, police detective Joe Wylee (Giles Panton). When a local truck driver comes across a strange device hovering over the road, Flash takes it to Dale at the TV station. And when Dale's alien story and Flash's search for the truth about his father collide, they 're thrown together again.

Dale Arden

Flash spots a strange man in an RV following him. With Dale's help, Flash tracks down Hans Zarkov (Jody Racicot), who worked with the late Dr. Gordon on the mysterious Portage Initiative. Zarkov warns them that he's detected a trans-dimensional rift-- a rift like the one Flash's father disappeared through on the night he 'died.' Now a strange biomechanical killer has come through the rift, looking for something called the "Imex" -- and willing to destroy Flash, Flash's mother (Jill Teed), and anyone else that gets in its way.

Produced by Reunion Pictures, this modern day retelling of the classic comic strip franchise will be distributed by RHI Entertainment internationally. Under an agreement with property owner King Features Syndicate, Matthew O’Connor and Tom Rowe are producing the new series. RHI’s Robert Halmi, Sr. and Robert Halmi, Jr. (Tin Man, Mitch Albom’s The Five People You Meet in Heaven, The Ten Commandments), who previously produced SCI FI’s popular miniseries event Legend of Earthsea, will serve as Executive Producers on the series.

The new Flash Gordon is an atrocity.

I'll take the fun and campy, 1981, Queen-infused "Flash Gordon" with the wonderful Max Von Sydow version of Ming the Merciless any day over this horrible train-wreck.

I didn't like the new Flash Gordon show anyways. It was boring. I like the cartoon that came out in 1979 and the original TV show. That 1990s FOX kids remake of Flash Gordon was shit.

I have to agree with Jake. Since this is RetroJunk.com, you should have written the article based around the original Flash Gordon vs. the new. This is more of a synopsis of the new show, instead of a true article. You used good grammar and great spelling, wich is a plus. Try again, and read articles that have a score of 10 or more if you want to get an idea of what RetroJunkies really like to read.

You should have at least wrote a brief history of flash gordon. You know the original TV show, the cartoons, and the movie from the 80's. this is not retro.
