Scariest movie as a kid
You may be surprised!
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
Now, before we get started, let's not talk about Pee-Wee's......... personal life. hehe. Pee-Wee was cool back when I was a kid. I never really watched the show he had very much, but I did make sure to watch all the Pee-Wee movies. The one that I remember the most was Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.
It was a fun movie, and it had a lot of scenes that I still remember pretty well even today. The movie started off with one of the coolest chain-reaction devices (I forget the official name for it) I've ever seen. Yes, Pee-Wee's voice is annoying and obnoxious to me today, but back when I was a kid I tried my hardest to be able to do the Pee-Wee laugh as I called it!
All right...... you all may think I'm crazy for considering this movie to be scary, but it actually used to TERRIFY me as a kid! And although the majority of the movie was funny, there were two sequences in particular that that used to give me nightmares! Here they are:
1) The Clown Doctors!
AHHHHHH! Those guys usedta scare the crap outta me! And it wasn't that I'm afraid of clowns because I'm not! However, a lot of kids ARE scared of clowns.... how mean to put these in a kids movie! Of course the clowns did look kinda creepy. And of course the surreal hospital that they were working in kinda freaked me out. And the doctor doing the "surgery" had one of the scariest faces I've ever seen! Especially in a kid's movie! The "doctors" were working as hard as they could to try to save the "victim", which in this case was Pee-Wee's totaled bike. Now let's keep in mind that doctors are supposed to be the good guys, right? They're supposed to take good care of their patients, help them, and save them. Everybody always said how good doctors were. Not so in this case! These doctors got these evil grins on their faces and slowly dipped the bike into this vat full of hot lava dancing around it and rejoicing! With the devil laughing at it! I didn't like doctors in the first place... but after that? I was hoping to God that I'd never have to go to the hospital! And definitely not have to have surgery done, because I just knew they'd slowly dip me into a lava vat if I was beyond hope! Man that scene disturbed me. hehe. Moving on...
2) Large Marge!
This was the truly terrifying part of the movie for me. The music they played during the scene was scary, foreboding, and ominous from the beginning.. Pee-Wee was trying to hitchhike and he caught a ride from a trucker on the road. It was an old, fat, kinda creepy woman, and she had such a freaky voice! Pee-Wee started talking with her, and the lady just kind of went right into a story of this TERRIBLE, MACABRE wreck she saw! I was the kind of kid who got completely into the movie, and hearing that story intrigued me so much and I was absorbed into it, because I liked the movie for one thing, and then for another I loved scary stories... She went about telling Pee-Wee how it was a night just tonight, the fog was dense like tonight, and dark. She continued to tell the story right up to where she heard a terrible, loud noise and saw a wrecked 18-wheeler. When she got to the end of the story, she said..
And when they finally pulled the driver's body from the twisted, burning wreck........ it looked... likeTHIS!"
And she looked at Pee-Wee and her face became this horrifying, bug-eyed, crazy haired, scary teeth, scary tongued monster! Even the comical laugh scared me! Even now, at the age of 23.............. that thing is still freaky. hehe
Aside from that, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure was a fun little movie. Me and my mom still do the tequila dance fom time to time. Nobody else seems to understand it though! Such uncultured people. hehe. Pee-Wee also had another movie.. I think it was called Big top Pee-Wee. It wasn't bad, but it didn't stick with me like this one did and these two scenes in particular. hehe. But oh well, it was all in good fun!
