My 90's Childhood

My Childhood memories of growing up in the late 80's-90's

Wow! its hard to believe that its already 2007. Seems just like yesterday i was sitting on my front porch watching the cars go by after school and popping open a fresh bottle of Orbitz drink. Now days of course most kids when they get out of school will go over to a friends house and plan a party or go over all the new features on their cell phones. When i was growing up we didnt have cell phones and the highlight getting out of school was to go play kickball and watch the after school cartoons that came on FOX and other stations. Well i grew up in The later 80's and early 90's so let me just share some of the memories i have of my childhood that i will never forget.

My Saturday morning always began with me and my grandma going to the local grocery store and me getting back on time to watch all the shows and cartoons like: land Of The Lost, Pee Wee's Playhouse, TMNT, Real Ghostbusters, etc.. but...my main focus on going to the store was to get a box of Cereal! i couldnt wait to see what new prizes were out and what new types of cereal's were being made! my favoirte cereal had to be the Real Ghostbusters Cereal or the Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure cereal with all the cool prizes :) my favorite snack was the a very rare hostess pie called the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle "turtle pies"!

On Saturday Nights me and my family would always get together and we would order pizza from either Little Cesars or Dominoes. I would get my food go to the "playroom" at our house and sit down and watch WCW Saturday Night from 5pm-6pm and them get ready for the hottest Saturday Night line-up ever! SNICK! featuring of course: Ren N Stimpy, Clarissa Explains It All, Alex Mack, Are You Afraid Of The Dark, etc..

My Sunday would start with me waking up and going to Church and then getting out and going home and watch WWF All American Wrestling! i was/am a huge wrestling fan! then the rest of the day we would sit home and enjoy playing video games. I remember my grandma taking me to the video rental store and giving me $3 to rent the newest game for SNES or Sega some of my favorite games included: Road Rash, Sonic, WWF Royal Rumble. Super Mario, etc.. then it would be off to bed because school was the next day.

Ahhh Monday Mornings... getting up early and being tired then...going to school! well my morning started out at about 6am i would go downstairs get my cereal (which ever kind i left with the past Saturday Morning) eat my cereal and watch: Snorks, Gem, USA Cartoon Express, etc.. and IF i didnt go to school i would get to watch: David The Gnome, Mia The Bee, Eureeka's Castle, Sharon, Loise and Bran's Elephant show, etc.. man the line-up then was great! then it was off to school!

After school i would come home eat my supper and watch the great after school line-up: Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego (game show on PBS), Power Rangers, Duck Tales, Batman Animated Series, etc.. we would play some games then work our way to the front porch and watch cars go by.. before it got dark we would usually go and play kickball or tag somewhere and then as soon as the street light came on we were home for the night. Now it's off to sleep so i can wake up to another beautiful day in the 90's.

OMG!!!, I thought I was the ONLY nerd who loved the vanilla pudding Ninja Turtle pies from the gas station up the street!...I cant believe there were others like me!!...Eurekas castle!!?...lol and what was the show about Camp Anawana?...Eat my shorts or something?

Both 80s and 90s had their great moments. I remember the Ghostbusters cerial. But I never got a chance to try it. But I got to have the Ecto-Cooler flavor Hi*C drink.

WOW!! I didn't know anyone else in the world remembered Mia the Bee. I loved Alex Mack but didn't get to see it much the last season. Im not sure what i was doing. How did it end. Did the company find out about her powers??

OMIGOSH!!! This is my first time reading anything on this site and I'm so happy it was yours. I thought no one remembered those TMNT pies. Eureka's castle, Alex Mack. You just made my day. I needed that. There was once life on this planet. I totally forgot anybody else was there with me. Ceral Saturday morning was almost as important as school. Did you ever watch TGIF?

Those were the days, I miss them. Saturdays used to rock. Turtle pies and chocolate milk were my favorite after school snack. WWF All-American Wrestling with Bobby Heenan and Mean Gene sometimes Gorilla Monsoon was great the comedy skits with them were funny. 6+ hours of Saturday morning cartoons an hour of WWF Superstars made Saturdays the greatest day of the week from the late 1980' thru mid 1990's. And lets not forget the weekend technically started Friday nights on ABC with TGIF. Damn TV stinks now.

AMAZING! I forgot about turtle pies until THIS second. I LOVED Orbitz and still talk about those at least once a month. I saw Sharon, Lois, and Bram in CONCERT (oh yeah- envy me). And i spent my entire childhood in our playroom. So DAMN you got me man...I can't believe you nailed it that well!!

I miss those days so much. I remember when you could get other pizzas at little ceasers instead of just hot and readys!! Back when little ceasers was good!!!! I remember renting games for 3 bucks and the TMNT turtle pies. SNICK WAS THE GREATEST LINE UP EVER!!!! With Clarissa Explains it all, Roundhouse, All That, and Are you afraid of the dark!! Man, I miss those days...no worries back then. Being a kid in those days were the greatest.

I love the Ghostbusters cereal. I forgot about it. I believe we have a little caesars somewhere in the ghetto around here in NW Indiana. Also, Eureka's Castle was an awesome show. I wish shows like that were still on rather than Nickelodeon playing Spongebob and some similar shows all the time.

Gawd, I missed a lot of school then. I remember Maya, Froozles ...I have vague memories of a Hello Kitty-type show... and then Tin-Tin, Gumby, Wild & Crazy Kids... Actually, I don't remember if those shows aired at the same time; I might be remembering several years at once.

Yer not kidding about those turtle pies being rare. I remeber the only place i could get them was at this all Hostess snack shop in the city. But hotdamn were they delicious!

I agree, what happen to those days. Spending acouple of bucks on a game rental. Straying up until dawn at a friends house playing Nintendo or Sage. Riding bikes down to the doughnut shop at 6 in the morning with all our change to get a dozen of doughnuts. During the day school, than riding bikes, playing football or baseball in the front yard.

Not having the time to read your article, I can still comment on your pics:

1. I never really cared much for Orbitz.
2. I actually remember those TMNT pies!
3. Little Ceasar's had such great pizza, but now we can't even find it anywhere!
4. I had that AYAOTD game for my PC! That game was so scary!
5. I also played Road Rash.
6. I remember Eureka's Castle.
7. I also remember the Real Ghostbusters, and I mean the REAL Ghostbusters! The original team!
