The 1990's was probably the last great period in rock. There were many amazing bands in the 90's, as well as some terrible ones. Here is a list of what I think are the Top 10 Bands of the 90's:

10. Faith No More

One of the rap-rock bands of the 90's as well as one of the most underrated.

9. Rage Against The Machine

Another rap-rock band, who was easily was one the most influential. Their music consists of great political and protest lyrics, as well as Tom Morello's amazing guitar soloss.

8. Alice In Chains

Although some people think of them as more a metal band than a grunge band, I think they are just plain awesome. RIP Layne Staley.

7. Red Hot Chili Peppers

Maybe these days, they are sell-outs for trying to copy off the success of Blood Sex Sugar Magik, but in the 90's, these guys were actually a great cutting edge funk-rock band.

6. Soundgarden

One of the four pioneer grunge bands of Seattle, Soundgarden were easily the most unique of the four. But "Black Hole Sun" isn't the reason why these guys are ranked at six, its the amazing vocals of Chris Cornell, the great guitar work of Kim Thayil, the complex drum beats of Matt Cameron, and the bassist Ben Shepherd that puts them on this list.
5. Nine Inch Nails

Originated in late-80's by Trent Reznor, Nine Inch Nails were one of most challenging alternative rock acts of the 1990's. But who else put out amazing albums such as "Pretty Hate Machine," "The Downward Spiral," or "The Fragile"?

4. Tool

Definetley one of my favorite bands, as well as one the best bands of the 90's. It might be wierd to you that these guys didn't believe in putting themselves in music videos, but instead choose to use clay animation, but that is what made them so unique and stand out from your average Top 40 rock band.

3. The Smashing Pumpkins

Easily the third best band of the 90's outside of Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Form in Chicago, Illinois by Billy Corgan, the Smashing Pumpkins put out many amazing albums such as "Gish," "Siamese Dream," and the brilliant double album "Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness."

2. Pearl Jam

One of the biggest bands that came out of Seattle, was Pearl Jam. They made one of the biggest and greatest rock albums of all time, "Ten." They are also the only band out of the big four grunge bands to have never broke up and continue to make great music after all these years.

1. Nirvana

Although they are not my personal favorite choice, they obviously had to be put at #1. Without Nirvana, you have never even heard of grunge, or many other of the amazing bands on this list. Whether, you think they are overrated or not, you can't deny that Nirvana were the ones to break alternative rock into the mainstream and completely kill of hair metal.

Well that is it for the my personal top 10 best bands of the 90's. I hope you enjoyed the article and please leave your thoughts!
