Our Concrete Angel,Yep,Yep,Yep

A tribute to the memory of Judith Barsi

For all who don't know who this lovely little child actress is, her name is Judith Eva Barsi. She was born on July 6th 1978 to Hungarian immigrant parents. She was discovered when she was five and started doing her first acting then.
Her mother tried to give her a happy childhood. It did not last long. Her father became increaingly abusive due to a paranoia disorder that was made worse by her success in the movie world. He felt like he had no control.
Just as things were starting to look up for Judith's future, he threw it all away. After an emotional intervention from Judith's agent and finalized divorce plans, her father shot her in the head as she slept and shot her mother next on July 25th 1988.Two days later her father drenched gas on the bodies and all over the house and burned it down before shooting himself in the head. Judith was only 10.

Besides the beyond depressing back story, let's take a look at her acting career. She was in roughly 100 commercials, then a few TV spots of shows like Punky Brewster, Growing Pains, several TV movies on the Lifetime network, and she was in three movies. It's a shame there are only two watchable ones.

Jaws 4: the Revenge (1987)

Judith was Thea Brody. We all know the idea of fourth sequels. They never tend to be good. This is a classic example of first is the worst. I haven't seen this movie but I've heard close to nothing good about it. It has a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. Either way, I hope she had fun working on her first movie that was filmed in the Bahamas. The next one on the list is better, I promise!
The Land Before Time (1988)

This was Judith's favorite movie role and argueably the best here. She was Duckie. Yep, yep, yep! She adored working with Don Bluth and planned to continue with him and voice acting in general in the future. This movie is a nostalgia classic for most '80s or '90s kids. We all know the charachters and either love or hate the sequels. None of the sequels will be talked about here because The Land Before Time 2 wasn't made until 1994, after Judith was already dead.

All Dogs Go To Heaven (1989)

Not only was this argueably Don Bluth's last good movie until his turn for the worse in the early '90s, it was also Judith's last movie. She was Anne-Marie (the little girl). This movie was completed in her memory and it's truly a miracle that she finished all the voice acting she needed here. The song "Love Survives" from the end credits of this movie was dedicated to her as a last good bye from the film's cast and crew. She did not sing Anne-Marie's song in this movie "Soon You'll Come Home". She never auditioned for it because of her emotional distress around the time she was working on this movie.
Generally, I like this movie. I just have a problem with Judith's charachter saying anything about getting shot or almost dying in a fire caused by gas. Seriously, this movie was released a year and a half after her death. I don't see why those two scenes couldn't be edited for sensativity purposes. Still, to most '80s or '90s kids this is a nostalgia classic and no it is not a disney movie to clear up common mistakes.

So that's who she was and the pic is where she is now. May she rest in peace and always be remembered by her movies.

here's a question for all who read and liked this article:
should I write a follow-up about things about Judith's personal life or things that I missed here??? I know articles about forensics cases, crimes or tradgedies don't always do well here but could this work as an article not about movies or other nostalgic joyous things???

A follow up? Yes It Should be done she deserves it. I think a picture of Duckie would be great on her stone near the yep yep yep. AnneMarie as well Duckie No.1. RIP Judith & Maria

No one seems to go here anymore. I say her story should be told. What a wonderful and tragic life this sweet little angel had. She is living proof that their is Heaven & Hell right here on Earth. Hopefully for Her also in the after life. I be pretty sure beyond a shadow of a doubt she is in Heaven. I had a dream about her. She was in a light grey truck. looked 1970 80ish. Kinda dumb when it comes to vehicals. I could not see who was driving. I did sense it was a male figure. She looked over at me. (I was on the outside of the car near passengers side.) She told me as she was smiling slightly giggling so full of love and happiness your trying to hard. (she sensed my remorse of her.) A movie about me well be out in August 2013 or 2014 cannot recall which. Is it just a dream? Maybe yes maybe no. Either way time well tell. RIP Judicans seh-ret-lek RockyPS I'll do my best never to forget you again. So sorry I did. Don't recall seeing DD OJ comercial GodBless

First Daddy who should have been extremely proud of her giving her all the love a father should. No he mistreats her then decides to murder her & her mom. Blow 1 2nd Blow No Marker for 16yrs I love to see Duckie Near the yep yep yep. My extreme gratitude and more to whoever discovered Judith & Mom head no gravestones & did something about it.     The thought of a kid being hurt or killed, let alone ALONG WITH HER OWN MOTHER BY THE HANDS OF HER OWN FATHER fills me with disgust and rage. ;-;

I've just finished watching All Dogs Go To Heaven, and I would like to sustain my statement. All of this is really, really sad. Even more so when they get mixed.
Malbosia Posted 1 year 10 months ago
Oh my that is so sad I never knew this until now.Sad.

Gonna check kit out thanks Wow a 11 months earliest blog wow anyone here besides myself?
TheOutlaw Posted 1 year 10 months ago
Well done. Judith's story is one horrible, sad tale. I saw The Land Before Time and All Dogs several times, but never knew she had died til the late nineties.
    92DreamMaster Posted 1 year 10 months ago
Also, might I add that it's the only reason to watch Jaws 4. No, I won't do that but I know someone else probably would for this reason. I just feel like she's in better movies than that. As far as ADGTH goes there's more than the ending that's tear enducing regarding Judith. You read that part right?
MarxForever Posted 1 year 10 months ago
Well, I probably could've gone my whole life not knowing about this.
It certainly brings an all new depth of sadness to the Land Before Time.
If I'm capable of watch the ending of All Dogs go to Heaven without bursting into tears it'll be a frigg'n miracle.

I believe to best of my knowledge first time I saw Judith is when she was in the 1987 lays potato chip commercial. I am not sure if I saw her in her first commercial Donald Duck Orange Juice have to see it again if I can locate it. I first knew of her passing in 1990's. I knew she was murdered had no Idea by who yet I did know without knowing I did. I thought Josezf who murdered his family and shot himself was a separate incident. What a shock when I found out just 2 weeks ago that the 2 were actualy one crime not 2.

Actually, this article could have more details but I decided to only talk about her movies, not her whole life, commercials or TV spots. I didn't find out about Judith the way you did, I guess I got lucky there. I hadn't seen the original LBT until earlier this year and I looked it up on Rotten Tomatoes and I noticed one of the pics was of a little girl, I was curious as to why the pic was outdated. So I clicked on her bio and learned that way. And yes, I forgot to mention the alcoholism thing, thanks for catching that. I'm glad you liked this! Yep, yep, yep!

This article is short for good reason, because you covered everything. Sadly, this is all there is to know about poor little Ms. Barsi. It's good that you used these pics of Judith and her grave, wikipedia has a pic of her in her Sunday best and I've never seen a pic of her grave. When I saw The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure for the first time I thought that Duckey sounded slightly different. I thought that perhaps Judith had outgrown her part and decided to move on with her normal life. Imagine my horror upon finding out the truth (on wikioedia, natch). My exact words were "Oh god, dont tell me that"!?!? It's touching what her fan club did for Judith and her mom. By the way, Judiths father also furthered his problem with an alcohol problem. Drunk and paranoid at the same time, great. Thanks for this article, it was very touching yep, yep, yep.
    92DreamMaster Posted 1 year 10 months ago
Thank you! Her toumbstone wasn't put there until 2004 when her fan club raised money for it. "Our concrete angel" is a refrence to Martina McBride's song that some people say was written for her but I don't know if that's true or not. The "Yep, Yep, Yep!" is Duckie's catchphrase.
AVisitorFromAfar Posted 9 months 17 days ago
I can't speak for Martina McBide but I would think she ment it for all abused kids. In the video it is the mom abusing the little girl I don't remember seen no father. Either Way She is our Concrete Angel yep yep yep RIP Judith
AVisitorFromAfar Posted 9 months 17 days ago

Great article on a young actress who died so young! So, what was the inspiration of the epitaph on her gravestone?
