Hello again everyone, welcome to another Action packed ActionBastard production. I'm Your host, ActionBastard. In this article You will find some of the toughest, most rugged characters ranging from NES to PS3. Now I'm not gonna try to include every single character I can think of, Just a few of my more favorite rugged characters in games. I want to try to include some not so well known characters as well as some very well known characters. Lets get started...

This first character is pretty well known especially among veteran gamers. Simon Belmont of the Castlevania series.

Castlevania is one of the most respected video game franchises since it's debut in 1986. Although in the past decade or so it has failed to reach the same height of success it had with it's releases in the 80's and 90's decades, it still has a passionate fan base. One thing that has given this series such a huge following, aside from it's great gameplay and atmosphere it creates, is the games protagonist, Simon Belmont.

Simon Belmont made his first appearence in the 1986 release, Castlevania, on the Nintendo entertainment system and has been kicking ass ever since. Simon is a decendant of the Belmont clan, a family of vampire hunters. Simon is well known for his weapon of choice, his signature whip (yes, he uses a whip to kill demons and vampires). Along with his trusty whip, he likes to carry a variety of different side weapons including his daggers, his flying axes and he even uses crosses and holy water to vanquish his evil foes. Simon has defeated Dracula on more than one occasion, not to mention numerous skeletons, zombies, ghosts and just about everything in between. Simon Belmont truly is badass.

Next up we have Someone who is a notorious badass. This guy has balls of steel and he takes no $#!% from anyone, not even aliens... and he likes to chew bubble gum. It's Duke Nukem

Duke Nukem's bad-assness is of a legendary status. Duke has been happily and heavily kicking ass since his debut in 1991. Fans of the series love this guy because he is the definition of macho, he's a womanizing, egotistical "tough guy". He has guns to match the size of his rude attitude. Duke Nukem has been the star of over twelve games and is usually saving the earth from aliens. Duke is well known for saying some of the most memorable quotes in video game history, among the most memorable ones is this little gem he spewed out in Duke Nukem 3-d, "it's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of bubble gum".

What's next for Duke Nukem? Duke will finally be making his long over due return in 2011's Duke Nukem forever. I would like to see a Duke Nukem movie someday and who knows, maybe depending on the success of Duke Nukem forever, the chances of their being a Duke Nukem movie might not seem so grim. Until then, "Hail to the king, baby".

The next character on the list is one of the coolest characters as well as one of the toughest. The demon slayer himself, Dante from the Devil may cry series

Dante is a half-demon, half-human mercenary dedicated to exterminating demons for killing his mother (glad he's on our side). Dante's father was a demon named Sparda, and Dante's mother was a human named Eva. Dante also has a twin brother, Virgil. Virgil is not on our side, which is unfortunate because he is a bad-ass in his own right.

Dante is exceptionally skilled at many different weapons including guns, swords and even a guitar is a deadly weapon in Dante's hands (DMC3). Dante's main weapons are his two pistols named Ebony and Ivory, and his sword, which is called rebellion. Dante has a few other weapons he uses such as his shotgun and his nunchaku just to name a few. Don't piss him off, because if You do then he might just turn into his demon form (yes, he does that) and then You're really screwed. I vote for Dante as the most badass video game character of the 2000's decade, rivaling a certain "Ghost of Sparta".

Honorable mention: Lu Bu from the dyansty warriors series.

Lu Bu is a character that some of you may never have heard of but rest assured, this guy is a total badass in every sense of the word. Lu Bu is a character that can actually enstill fear in You when he appears in the game. He is extremely strong and very dangerous. He is the most feared warrior in dynasty warriors. When You see this man, RUN!.

Up next we have a deadly ninja and master wall climber. It is Ryu Hayabusa of the Ninja Gaiden series.

Ryu Hayabusa has found fame in the video game world not only as the protagonist of the famed Ninja Gaiden franchise, but also as a playable character in the dead or alive fighting game series. Ninja Gaiden is a 2-d side scrolling action game who's difficulty is well established among veteran gamers around the world. The ninja gaiden series was vastly prominent in the late 80's to the mid 90's, but then for nearly a decade the series was on hiatus. That was until 2004, when the series burst back onto the scene with the xbox game titled ninja gaiden. 2004's Ninja Gaiden was a beautifully violent blood bath, The controls and graphics, and well, pretty much every thing about that game was stellar (it was still extremely hard, just like the old ones).

Ryu Hayabusa is a ninja who is driven by revenge. He is a swift, sleek, agile, powerful death dealing machine. Ryu is the leader of the dragon ninja clan. Ryu is the current heir to the dragon lineage and is the holder of the legendary dragon sword. Ryu's primary weapon is his sword, but he also uses ninja throwing knives and uses magical powers to battle foes. In the newer entry in the series, he uses other types of weapons as well. Anyone who is a fan of the Ninja Gaiden series or have played the games will tell you how badass this guy is.

The next character on our list is from the famed fighting game franchise Tekken. It's the cyborg, Bryan Fury.

Bryan Fury was first introduced in 1998's smash arcade hit, Tekken 3, and has appeared in every Tekken game released since then. Bryan is my favorite character to play as in Tekken and is definetly a favorite among many fans of the series. Alot of people know his sadistic laugh that has become a trademark of Bryan Fury.

Bryan was an interpol agent who was shot and killed by gunmen in Hong Kong. After his death, his body was placed in the care of Dr. Abel for scientific research and revived and is now half human, half cyborg.

Bryan is one of the most ruthless, sadistic characters I've seen in video games. He kills for no reason and shows no mercy. Bryans fighting style is kick-boxing but he can do some moves that only a cyborg could do (such as his machine gun punches for example). Bryan is in my opinion the most well balanced character in the Tekken franchise, he's both exceptionally strong and fast and has a nice variety of combos. All in all, Bryan is one dude You do not want to mess with.

Honorable mention(s): Bill Rizer (blue) and Lance Beam (red) of the Contra series.

When earth is under attack by aliens who should You call? No, not Will Smith, You call Bill Rizer and Lance Beam. When aliens attack, Bill and Lance say "Let's attack aggresively", and thats exactly what they do. The Contra games are as action packed as games get. You take on endless hordes of enemies coming at You from every angle. Bill and Lance have a wide variety of weapons to choose from including flamethrowers, homing missiles, lazer beams and my favorite, the trusty spread shot. These two guys are definetly worthy of an honorable mention.

It's time for the last character on this list. I'm sure alot of You guy's already guessed that this character would be on this list, but still, this guy has to be in an article about badass video game characters. Kratos from the God of War series.
The God of War series first installment was released on Playstation 2 in 2005. The first God of War game changed the face of action video games with it's brutal violence, beautiful artwork and it's intense and highly entertaining gameplay. The God of War games are loosely based on Greek mythology. The series main protagonist Kratos has quickly become one of the most recognizable characters in video games today. Aside from being just the protagonist of God of War, Kratos is now a playable character in the new Mortal Kombat game released in April of 2011.

Kratos is forced to serve the olympian god of war Ares in order to save his own life. Ares tricks Kratos into murdering his wife and child. Kratos is than cursed by an oracle to bear the mark of his terrible deeds, the ashes of his family, turning Kratos complexion ash white, thus earning him the nickname "Ghost of Sparta". The goddess Athena tells Kratos that if he kills Ares, his sins will be forgiven. After Kratos Kills Ares he becomes the new god of war.

Kratos is an extremely violent and brutal warrior. He rips his enemies limbs off and brutally massacres large numbers of enemies at a time with his signature weapons, his double chain swords. Kratos wields two swords connected to his arms by long chains. When Kratos fights, his swords are on fire. Kratos has some larger than life boss battles with some of Greek mythologies most famous characters throughout the course of the games. Some of these characters include Ares, Hercules, Poseidon, Hades and even Zeus himself.

Although Kratos has not been around for very long, When all is said and done, he will definetly go down in video game history as one of the most badass, if not the most badass character of all time.

Well thats it for now, I hope everyone enjoyed my article. Sorry if Your favorites were not included, but I'm considering doing a follow up to this article so let me know what You think and if You have any suggestions on who You think would deserve to be in it.
